Colour Hosting is registered in Gibraltar, with offices there and in Latvia. They operate primarily out of a data center located in Lithuania, though they also appear to sell dedicated servers from a Tier IV data center in Phoenix, Arizona. It’s not clear when they were founded or how many customers they have, indicating that they may be new to the web hosting scene. However, they do have a strong social media following, with over 19,000 followers on Instagram and 21,000 on Facebook. Their website is in English only.
Features and Ease of Use
Colour Hosting offers a comprehensive range of website hosting plans, including shared hosting, virtual private servers, and dedicated hosting. Here are some of the key features all shared hosting plans enjoy:
- 99.9% uptime guarantee
- Daily backups, configurable by client
- One to ten domains per account (on shared hosting)
- Premium SSL certificates available at an additional cost
- 1GB to 10GB disk space depending on plan
- Unlimited bandwidth on all plans
Notably, the plans come with unlimited bandwidth, subdomains, and FTP accounts. While I’m always a little cautious of unlimited bandwidth due to the inherent physical limits of a server, Colour Hosting is very clear in their terms about the resource limits of their plans.
Beginners will be spoilt for choice with their premium one-click installer, which comes with over 400 programs, support for WordPress, Drupal, and Magento, as well as e-commerce features such as instant shopping carts and counters. For more advanced users, they offer PHP versions 5.4 to 7 as well as Ruby on Rails, SSL secured FTP, SSH access, and support for CGI scripts.[Text Wrapping Break][Text Wrapping Break]Colour Hosting uses SSD storage, which means disk read times of up to ten times faster than regular HDD storage. They also guarantee 99.9% uptime, although this doesn’t seem to be backed by any form of compensation in the event that their uptime promise is not met. Plans come with a swath of security features such as anti-DDoS attack protection, 24/7 monitoring, and SpamAssassin for email accounts.
Pricing and Support
Colour Hosting offers four shared hosting plans: Blue, Green, Orange, and Red. There’s quite a large spectrum of pricing from the basic to the advanced package, so the affordability does depend on your resource requirements. The base plan, Blue, is very cheap. However, at only 1GB disk space, it may only be enough for the simplest of websites.
Most first-time or beginner website owners will likely find their requirements better met by the second hosting plan, Green, which includes 3GB disk space and unlimited bandwidth. The price for this package is average: neither super affordable nor expensive. The final two packages, Orange and Red, are definitely on the expensive end. All plans are exclusive of domain registration and SSL certificates, though they do have some of the cheapest SSL certificates on the market.
Prices are listed by default in USD, which is a little surprising as they use British English and they’re registered in Europe. Furthermore, you have to opt for at least a year-long package at minimum, which is quite inflexible. However, to their credit, they do offer a 14-day money back guarantee.
In terms of customer service, they have a contact form on their website as well as a phone number listed. They have multiple social media channels, which seem to be regularly maintained. They advertise 24/7 technical support by email or ticket, and in my experience they typically respond within the hour. I’ve also contacted them a couple of times by Facebook messenger and always received a prompt response.
