Bite Host

Bite Host is an ideal host for small businesses based in the South African market. The hosting company has its head offices in Pretoria, South Africa, and its offerings include shared web hosting, email hosting, web design services, and domain name registration services.

Features and Ease of Use

Bite Host web hosting solutions come with the following standard features:

  • Free daily backups
  • Website builder
  • One free registration
  • MySQL databases
  • One-click installer with over 20+ pre-installed scripts
  • 99.9% uptime network guarantee
  • FTP accounts

Bite Host web hosting solutions are powered by fast SSD storage servers with up to 2GB of RAM. SSDs provide super fast boot times as well as faster page loading speeds of the websites it hosts.

Its shared web hosting solutions are divided into four packages: Economy plan, Standard plan, Professional plan, and Unlimited plan. The Economy plan is designed to suit individual blogs and comes with 500MB SSD storage, five email accounts, two FTP accounts, and two subdomains. With the Unlimited plan, “everything is unlimited” except that its actually 1GB SSD storage, 20 FTP accounts, and 20 subdomains.

Each of Bite Host web hosting solutions is further optimized with unique features for optimal performance. For instance, the hosting solutions come with daily and weekly backup services that can be managed by users on their cPanel accounts. All the same, this hosting provider does not offer SSL certificates and clients would likely have to source these services from other vendors.

It is worth noting that, although the Bitehost website has an easy to navigate interface, most of its links, especially at the bottom of its home page, are invalid. In addition, the website looks outdated with the website footer’s last update reading 2017.

Pricing and Support

Although they are cheap, the hosting services lack significant hosting features to support websites with moderate or high web traffic. All the same, the packages come with flexible monthly and annual billing cycles. The hosting prices are listed in South African rand.

Bite Host provides a 99.9% uptime network guarantee. That said, the hosting plans do not seem to have a refund policy.

The Bite Host customer support team is available via telephone, contact form, ticketing system, or email, but the link to live chat is invalid. The customer support staff claims to be available 24/7, yet when I sent a query to their support email, I received no response.

The Bite Host site does have a knowledge base section, but it has no articles or tutorials and its FAQ section is limited.

Bottom line on Bite Host

Bite Host lacks the support system and the infrastructure to host resource-intensive websites with complex databases. In addition, its customer support is unreliable and if you are one of those people who are a little impatient, then this vendor is not a good choice for you. That said, individuals with blogs and small websites might find this vendor’s hosting solutions satisfactory for their business requirements.

Before you make a decision, we highly recommend you check out some alternative hosting companies, which we highly recommend.
