Why choose DesignCrowd?
- Exceptional design quality
- Unique features
- Well-rounded support
Is DesignCrowd for you? Let’s take a look.
High Quality Design Work That Beats The Rest
When we look at the quality of designs offered by all of our logo content companies, we have to put DesignCrowd up there because they hold some very talented designers who can offer nothing but the best quality, usability and a keen eye for detail. The designs are so clean, strong and unique that some of them even beat design studios, but what makes DesignCrowd so good is that you can hire an upcoming designer for a great price, before they hit the big time and start charging big amounts.
A Great Looking Website With a Few Usability Issues
With their cute icons and thoughtful color scheme, it’s obvious DesignCrowd put a lot of effort into their website. The result looks and feels great, but unfortunately doesn’t entirely translate to a user-friendly experience. Part of this is because this isn’t strictly a logo design service so there’s a lot of extra content to go through. The rest of it is because DesignCrowd’s navigation isn’t always as intuitive as it could be – you could spend some quality time snooping around for the gallery page before you find it hiding below the fold or behind another link.
Luckily posting a contest isn’t nearly as confusing. There’s a clearly marked link at the top of each page which sends you to the signup form and from there to the creative brief, the payment process and the beginning of your contest.
At the contest stage you’ll be asked to give feedback and comment on the designs you receive. After picking a winner, DesignCrowd will move you to the helpful “design handover” phase (and special page), where you can talk to the winning designer, request small changes and finally download your logo files.
A Serviceable Brief
Even though it doesn’t get into all the specifics, the DesignCrowd brief is still fairly detailed. They also deserve special mention for allowing you to choose (for free!) how long your contest will last.
DesignCrowd’s Features Make Customer Satisfaction a Priority
I won’t say much about DesignCrowd’s testimonial page, not because it isn’t good (it is) but because the website has so many other great features that this seems so small in comparison. I’m talking about a great designer profile interface in which you can filter designers by earnings, positive feedback and more. I’m also talking about a freelance option that lets you approach specific designers and hire them for a one-on-one job.
Then I should mention that DesignCrowd is one of the only contest websites that lets you give contest participants individual feedback – largely because each entry is private, which is a great way to ensure originality and creativity. At the same time, if you want to get a second opinion you can always share your contest entries with friends and get their input. These features have one thing in common: They’re all about putting the customer and the final product first.
Pricing on DesignCrowd is a little tricky. On the one hand, the minimum price is very good for a contest website ($240 including service fees). On the other, a glance at the actual contests shows that most of them don’t go much lower than $400. This doesn’t mean you can’t get a good contest going for less, but it could mean that the better designers would be reluctant to participate in it.
Then again the price packages are customizable, so you don’t have to jump to the next package to improve your chances. DesignCrowd also offers some small additions that could help draw in designers, such as a $20 participation fee for the top runner ups or the option to give up your refund guarantee and commit to awarding a prize.
Any Time, Any Place
I sure do love DesignCrowd’s support. Besides their active Twitter and Facebook accounts they also have a great FAQ page, an email contact option and even a live chat box for the purchasing stage – at least during business hours. Of course you could always just pick up the phone and call them, but then you’d have to choose between the 7 (yes) different international numbers they provide. Life is just hard that way. The support you’ll get, by the way, will be as prompt and efficient as any in the business.
- Email Support
- Phone Support
- Live Chat – limited
- Support Center
DesignCrowd is first and foremost about quality, and that’s what you’ll be getting. Beyond the slightly confusing website and the higher bid options there’s a world of exceptional designers just waiting to get a piece of your business. The good support and incredible features are a good indication of the premium this website places on customer service and satisfaction.

The process was presented as relatively simple and easy, and I took the plunge and bought the basic $249 package for a 10 day competition. Your presented with 'recommendations' along the competition journey that suggest you invite more designers, increase your budget, or buy other services, but nothing compelling. I didn't opt for any of these extras and there's nothing done to make you spend more if you don't want.
This may sound obvious, but the Brief was the most important part of the whole process and it's important that you nail this as best you can. The more effort you spend on your Brief will mean the better quality of designs you receive. Or so I thought; what you get is a relatively high proportion of rubbish designs from designers who either didn't read my Brief or didn't really care whether or not they got the job. I got the feeling the poor designs had been submitted by lazy designers that just 'churn' designs with very little effort and if they manage to hook a client, then it's a relatively low cost acquisition for them.
The good news is, DesignCrowd make it easy to get rid of these low lifers in a diplomatic and polite way by excluding them from further submissions.
I ended up with 64 designs of which we short listed three, and awarded one. The three short listed were keen to make changes to their initial design and put in the effort, which I appreciated. I got what I wanted and I hope they felt they got good feedback from me in return - it's important to do this regularly and I reviewed all new work daily to help the designers (and me).
Reading some of the other feedback here I actually had to double check the other reviewers were talking about the same company. I can't say I experienced any failing in their product.
In the end I was happy with my design, the cost, and service. I'd use DesignCrowd again, and I'd recommend their service.
- perfect design
- it was fast and easy
- Paid for 50 + designs got over 100!
- Eliminating designs is tedious, if on page 3 you eliminate it then it kicks you back to page 1 so then you have to go find where you were again. As many designs are the same should be able to batch elminate them.
- Initial designs were submitted quickly
- Designs were not what I wanted and not one designer replied to my messages
- The pressure to keep adding money to get more designs is something you don't find out about until after you have made a commitment. Misleading again. Is that legal?
Then they pour salt on the wound by sending me this email today:
"You Have 13 days To Select A Winner
If you do not select a design we will select a winner for you and pay your budget to the designer.
Your deadline for receiving designs to your 'Documentary and Portrait Photographer needs a new logo/brand.' project has now passed and you have received 16 so far. You have 13 days to request any revisions (if you haven't done so already) to designs you've received or to select a winner."
- promise payment in 5 days
- they dont pay
They claim they are "short-staffed" but there are many designers who have been waiting even longer than myself to be paid on a design that was selected by and paid for by the client.
- Easy payment gateway.
- Easy Sign Up
- No customer service
- Overpriced Projects
- Got Cheap Designs
After wrapping my first and the last project with DesignCrowd, I started looking for some other alternatives and unfortunately Designhill made it very easy.
Most of the logos were awesome and delivered in only 7 days. 24/7 Customer Support and they were able to answer any questions or concerns I had throughout the contest period.I received a number of creative and unique logos in very affordable price.
- No customer service available
- Tried to call: No answer
- They never called back
- easy for a new designer you think
- jobs put in front of you that you want
- the idea of making a living from this
- waiting for feedback it never comes
- wondering if we being conned waiting on a decision
- screen never updates
- Easy sign up
- Cheap looking designs
- Horrible customer service
- Overpriced for what you get
I selected the 100% money back option and then received an email stating if I didn't pick a design in 13 days, DesignCrowd would pick a design for me and pay the designer. When I contacted the online customer service rep, I got the run around. I made sure to receive an email stating the refund request had been processed before ending my conversation.
I have posted the conversation if you are interested in seeing how they tried to get my money, even after clearly stating I wanted a refund and was eligible.

DESIGNCROWD SUPPORTHi Rhonda. How can I help you today?
My name is Hopner.
RHONDAI selected a refundable project and now desingcrowd says if i do not select a logo they will select and pay for me.
DESIGNCROWD SUPPORTMay I please have your email address so I can check your project?
DESIGNCROWD SUPPORTThank you. Let me just check real quick and get back to you.
Your project is indeed refundable.
Was there an email sent to you that we are going to select a design for you?
Said i have 13 days to select or design crowd will select and pay for me
DESIGNCROWD SUPPORTAhh I see.
By default, that's the email sent to customers once a project enters the deciding please especially if the project is guaranteed.
But in your case, please be assured that we are not going to select a winning design for you.
But please take note of our 60 day refund policy from the project's launch date.
RHONDASo would i just receive a refund to my credit card minus the fees?
DESIGNCROWD SUPPORTOnce the time frame has passed and the project sits idle for a few months, then we would have no choice but to select a winner for you.
May I confirm that you are now asking for a refund?
RHONDAyes. I want a refund.
DESIGNCROWD SUPPORTI am sorry to hear that.
RHONDAI would like you to go ahead and refund my credit card now, so there is no confusion please.
DESIGNCROWD SUPPORTBefore I go ahead and process your refund, may I kindly ask if you would consider reopening the project and extending the deadline so you can get new submissions? Once it's open again, I will reach out to some of our logo designers to join your contest.
This is at no additional cost btw.
I will go ahead and process your refund and send you an email confirmation.
DESIGNCROWD SUPPORTPlease note that it normally takes 7-10 business days for it to be completely processed by our accounts department and once it's done, an email confirmation will be sent to you.
RHONDASo I will receive an email from you now stating it has been submitted and another email when it has been completed?
DESIGNCROWD SUPPORTYes, that's correct.
RHONDAok, thank you.
DESIGNCROWD SUPPORTYou're most welcome!
Is there anything else I can help you with?
RHONDAyou sent me an email asking to extend the project, not an email confirming a refund.
I clearly stated I do not wish to extend the project
DESIGNCROWD SUPPORTYes, no worries. I get that.
However, I am still attending to other customers and can not leave them just yet.
RHONDAI will wait with you until you send me the refund conformation.
DESIGNCROWD SUPPORTBut you assured that your refund will be processed.
RHONDANow you are giving me the run around. I will be saving this conversation we are having.
DESIGNCROWD SUPPORTYes, please do.
RHONDAYou just told me you could process it.
DESIGNCROWD SUPPORTMy name is Hopner by the way.
RHONDAThen why did I receive an email from Jennifer?
DESIGNCROWD SUPPORTSending her a message now..
Jen is now processing the refund
RHONDAI think I made it perfectly clear, my project was not guaranteed and I am eligible for a refund and I want you to process that request.
DESIGNCROWD SUPPORTYes, it was perfectly clear.
As mentioned, Jen is now processing your refund.
Expect the email in less than 10 minutes.
RHONDAThank you. I will wait.
DESIGNCROWD SUPPORTShe responded to your email.
Let me know if you have it.
Is there anything else I can help you with?
RHONDAThat's it. Thank you.
DESIGNCROWD SUPPORTIt was nice chatting with you.
If you need further assistance, please feel free to call us or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Have a wonderful day!
- Paying them was easy....too easy.
- Poor Interface
- Difficult to communicate with the
- Waste of money and time
- they promise good things
- they did not provide me with designs, but kept my money!
I only received 5 designs, 4 of which were super low quality.
I have called designcrowd.com asking for a refund, but they will not issue one.
They simply say I "Guaranteed" payment. When I try to explain to them that they
did not provide what they promised me -- 20 designs over a 5 day period, they
simply repeat that I "Guaranteed" payment.
They tell me they will "call me back with a decision" but never do.
Basically, design crowd promised me 20 designs to choose from,
failed to perform, and decided to keep my money.
This company is super-unethical and shows zero interest in providing the service
provided once they have your money, and obviously has zero value for a customer.
- No refund money
- No technical support
Dont try that, it is a waste of money!
- I saw no pros to working with them
- told that refunds are gauranteed and they are not
- The artist was from India and does not understand English
- Software is hard to understand process
- Paying them is all too simple
- Zero Effort in what they call Design
- False Advertising with their 100% moneyback guarantee
- Poor Customer Service
- Website very user friendly
- Designer was great about communicating
- Finished each logo in a timely fashion
- Storing bank information
- Customer service needs some improvement
Now, I am not happy about DC storing my bank information. Upon, me trying to upload my 2nd project I had some difficulties. As I was trying to start a paragrah after greeting Goh, I hitted the entered button expecting to move to the next line and it processed a payment $99.00. Immediately, I was upset to learn my credit card information was stored and a payment was processed without pushing the correct button to submit payment. At the same time, I didnt have the opportunity to upload any information. Meantime, I called customer service whom never returned any of my phones about my concern. That is when I stay calm and returned to the website to find this project was stored under my account and I resumed uploading pertinent information. The point of sharing is the website is user friendly and please be aware your credit information is saved. BUT THE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN AND I WAS OPEN. I EXPLAIN EVERYTHING AND HE WAS VERY SUPPORTIVE. AGAIN THANKS GOH
- You receive more than one 'design'
- 100% money back guarantee is false
- The designers do not read, nor adhere to the brief
- Nothing usable supplied
Do not use Design Crowd if you a. want a usable design b. would like to get value for money
- terrible customer service
- very uncreative designs
- refund policy is questionable and they take their time
- It is an Australian company
- Low quality designs
- Misleading refund policy
- Website doesn't scale to mobile
- Great designs
- Easy to use
- Lots of attention
- Email spam
- Easy to navigate
- Overall vagueness - everything is hidden
- Designers cannot interact with contest holders individually
- Designers cannot view competition's designs EVEN after contest''s end
- No contest holder ratings to view good/bad history
As with most design contests, feedback is lacking. There ain't much to do to get the contest holders to offer feedback. I always try to leave a comment meant to eliict a response...if it doesn't come, I don't join. Period
DesignCrowd is my last choice of sites to participate on...until greater transparency is achieved its almost pointless to participate.
- The site is easy to use
- Designers aren't encouraged to design well
- They upcharge you for everything you need
- You DO NOT get 100% of your money back
Working with a single designer is a bigger bang for your buck. They know they are the only one competing and so they actually submit quality designs because it's worth their time.
Design crowd isn't worth the designer's time or yours.
- Clean site design
- Extremely low quality designs
- No refund of their fees even though they say 100% guarantee
- Many spammy emails over the course of the contest trying to get you to upgrade
I was lured to their 100% satisfaction guarantee. After putting in the design brief, you play around with the budget. I was promised 50-65 designs from 23 designers for the amount I specified. After you make the payment, you keep getting bombarded with messages on the site as well as via email that you should add all sorts of PAID upgrades to ensure you get designs. You are also introduced to their REAL cancellation policy: only the amount to the designer is refundable. The DesignCrowd fees are NOT.
I have waited a few days only to receive one "serious" offer from a designer which included 5 variations which were roughly the same (move something a little here or there or change color). 2 more designers made some horrible designs that I would be ashamed to even bring up. In total 3 designers and 15 variations of the same 3 designs. Nothing like the 50-65 and 23 designers.
I have contacted DesignCrowd already at the start asking about the low turnout. All I could get was, please upgrade or invite designers. They also said they would send invites on my behalf. This resulted in several spam emails per day say: designer X accepted (and usually rejected) your invitation. Who cares??? They also included regular CRM emails urging me to upgrade my contest (paid) to get more offers.
When trying to cancel the contest and get a refund, they would not let me do that for 10 days until the official close of the contest and then they wanted another week to process it. In any case, they would not refund THEIR fee. So at the end of the day, they want to make money even though the buyer did not get what he wanted and the designers did not get anything. Nice marketplace!
I have to mention that I ran a contest with 99Designs where the results were not much better. Although 99Designs insisted on calling them via phone to cancel, they did make a FULL refund.
I think that the promise of a design contest sounds nice in theory, in practice it proved a waste of time and money for me. Better to spend a little more time evaluating designers and commissioning one or two for a small project and if you are happy, for more work.
Best of luck!
