How to Cancel Weebly and Get a Full Refund [Tested in 2024]

Joshua Bromley Joshua BromleyWebsite Development Expert
I put Weebly’s cancelation process to the test, and it was as easy as one, two… threebly! (Sorry.) Here’s a step-by-step guide of how I canceled Weebly’s cheapest plan and got a refund.

I had a year-long subscription to Weebly’s Personal Plan to promote my freelance services but decided that another platform would serve me better. (Wix has more templates to choose from and stronger SEO tools.)

Weebly doesn’t make its cancellation options obvious, and you will need to contact support. I’ll walk you through the fastest way to get it all done.

Stop Your Subscription

Some of you may want to keep your subscription for now, but stop it from auto-renewing in the future. That way, you can continue to use the services that you’ve paid for, but transition to another platform once that time has expired. So first,  I’ll tell you how to stop your subscription from auto-renewing.

Then, I’ll tell you how to cancel your current subscription, domain, and get a refund. If you know that you want to cancel your current plan outright, there’s no need to stop your subscription from auto renewing first. Go straight to How to Cancel Your Current Subscription, Domain, and Get a Refund to see how to do that.

To stop your subscription from auto-renewing, log in like you usually do and Weebly will take you to your dashboard. Once there, click on the drop-down menu in the upper right, then click on ‘Account settings.’

Weebly - account settings
So far, so good?
Next, you’ll be taken to the page where you can manage your account. From here, simply click on ‘My Services’ then ‘Manage’ under ‘Subscription.’

Weebly - manage subscription
You’re doing great!
Next, you’ll be taken to a page where it will say ‘Unsubscribe’ and you can convert your site to a free plan. Click ‘Continue’ in the upper right.

Weebly - unsubscribe from plan
And… you’re unsubscribed!
That’s it! To unsubscribe from your domain subscription, you simply repeat this process, except this time, you’ll click ‘Manage’ under your Domain subscription.

Pretty straightforward, no? But let’s say you want to cancel your current subscription. You’ve signed up, it’s not what you expected, you want to cancel your subscription, domain, and get your money back. Well, if it’s been less than 30 days since you’ve signed up, it’s easier than you think.

Want to know how to do it?

How to Cancel Your Current Subscription, Domain, and Get a Refund

Well, it’s pretty straightforward. You simply contact Weebly customer support. They do all of this manually from their end.

I know, I know… You’re thinking, “contacting support sounds painful.” The mere thought gives us flashbacks of being stuck on hold for hours only to be told we need to call another number. But there’s nothing to fear – Weebly’s support is quick and helpful, and no phone call is required. Unless you want to phone, which you can. But seriously, who wants to phone customer support?

Thankfully, you can also contact support by email or through chat. These options aren’t the easiest to access, so here’s a quick guide to get there.

From your Weebly dashboard, click ‘Support.”’

Weebly - access support
Who doesn’t need support from time to time?
Once you’re on the Support page, scroll down to the very bottom and click on ‘Contact us.’

Weebly - contact support
This is going to take a few steps.
The following window will open. You can pretty much type anything into the box and the chatbot will offer up an article that might help.

Weebly - accessing support
Type any question here.
Whatever pops up in response to your question, simply scroll down and click on ‘No, show me more.’

Weebly - reach customer support
You’re not there yet!
Scroll down again and click on ‘Contact support.’

Weebly - contact support
You’re getting closer!
After clicking on ‘Contact support,’ click on ‘View support options.’

Weebly - support options
Almost there…
You’ll then be taken to the below screen and, if chat is available, you’ll be given the option to click on ‘Chat now.’ Go ahead and click on that… Unless, you would rather email of course (that option is on the left).

Weebly - access support chat
Just one more click!
And… voila!

You’ve finally arrived at Weebly’s online chat support! Simply type in that you would like to cancel your subscription, domain (if applicable), and get a refund (if it’s been less than 30 days) and someone from their team will be with you quickly.

Weebly chat support
Now that wasn’t so hard, was it?
Within moments of opening a chat with their support I was in touch with Renee.

Weebly - customer support chat
Renee was super helpful.
Renee informed me that only customer support could cancel my current subscription, domain, and issue me a refund. She did all of this for me within seconds but added that it would take one to three business days for my card to be refunded for the purchase.

Once she had cancelled everything, I suddenly realized that I would still like to access my site’s content. So, I asked her if I could. This was her response:

Weebly - Chat Support
Renee rules.
So, once you cancel any paid services you have with Weebly, everything is simply transferred to their free plan. Perfect!

At this point, your paid subscription and domain are cancelled, and you still have a free account where you can publish your site on a free Weebly subdomain. Ask support to make sure that your site is reconnected to your free Weebly subdomain so that you can still edit, publish, or unpublish your site as you like.

If you’ve reverted to your free plan and reconnected to your free Weebly subdomain but would still like to unpublish your site so that people can no longer access it, it’s super easy…

How to Unpublish Your Weebly Site

From your dashboard click on ‘Edit site’ to enter your site editor. From there, click on ‘Settings’ at the top of the page, then scroll down and click on ‘Un-publish.’

Weebly - un-publish site
It can’t get easier than this.
A window will open asking if you’re sure you want to un-publish, click ‘Yes, un-publish.’

Weebly - un-publish site
Don’t like your site? This is your button.
And… you’re done! Your site will no longer be visible online.

Now that you’ve canceled your Weebly account, you might want to contemplate other options. However, it’s important to note that not every website builder suits every individual. Thus, which one should you select?

Great Weebly Alternatives

Wix is the ideal website builder for most people and businesses. It’s considered by many to be the better beginner-friendly do-it-all builder. It combines ease-of-use with incredible flexibility, and more than 300 apps you can add to your site to improve its functionality. And best of all? Like Weebly, Wix also has a free plan!

Squarespace is ideal for creatives who want clean, minimalistic, but stylish, and  professional looking websites. You’ll love Squarespace if straight up ease-of-use combined with elegant design is your priority. Its templates provide a great starting point and editing them to your taste is a simple and fun experience.

If you’re unsure, Squarespace offers a 14-day free trial so you can try it out before you commit!

You can’t beat Shopify for e-commerce, and Shopify’s Basic plan is actually cheaper than Weebly’s Business Plan, if you’re paying month to month. Shopify is designed specifically as an e-commerce platform. And, it has countless apps available that allow you to create the best experience for your online customers and improve your conversion rates.

Shopify also has a 14-day free trial, so there’s no reason not to give it a try.

FAQ

How do I delete my Weebly account?

From your dashboard click on the dropdown menu in the upper right. Then click on ‘Account settings,’ then ‘My Data.’ From there you simply click on ‘Erase Data & Forget Me.’

Note: this cannot be undone and it is not the same as merely cancelling your subscription. When you cancel your subscription you still have a free Weebly account from which you can edit and publish a Weebly site. Deleting your account will erase your data entirely.

How do I get a refund from Weebly?

If it’s been less than 30 days since you subscribed to one of Weebly’s paid plans you just need to contact customer support. They will cancel your current subscription, including your domain if you wish, and issue you a refund. Your card will be refunded within one to three business days.

If you decide to sign up again with Weebly, or another great website builder, there are plenty of additional discounts available!

Is Weebly the best website builder?

Weebly is easy to use and has great customer support, but its flexibility is limited compared to other easy-to-use website builders such as Wix. I believe that Wix is the best website builder for most people and businesses. It has great flexibility and a ton of apps which add to your site’s capabilities – plus it has a free plan. For more info, check out our expert Wix review.

Can I get my Weebly account back again?

If you’ve cancelled any paid subscriptions with Weebly everything is simply reverted back to their free plan. This means you can still access your site, edit, and publish or unpublish it as you wish.

But if you’ve deleted your Weebly account by erasing your data with Weebly then there is no way to get it back. You will have to start over.

Now that you’ve deleted your Weebly account, consider these Weebly alternatives before giving Weebly another try. You might also want to check out our expert Weebly review.
