Founded in 2002, One.com has an impressive 1.5 million customers (and counting) in 150 countries. To complement their hosting plans, they offer a proprietary, affordable website-building tool. This Danish company has offices in many worldwide locations, and their website is available in many different languages.
Features and Ease of Use
One.com offers WordPress hosting, email hosting, domain registration, a website building tool, and two shared hosting plans that offer the following core features:
- Backup and restore available (highest priced package)
- Free domain registration offers available
- One or unlimited add-on domains, dependent on the package
- Free SSL certificate always included
- 25GB or 200GB SSD storage
- 512MB or 2GB RAM
The two shared hosting plans are Starter (25GB SSD Storage, 512MB RAM, one domain) and Professional Plus (200GB SSD Storage, 2GB RAM, multiple websites). Both plans come with a free SSL certificate, unlimited bandwidth, and unlimited email accounts. If you need SSH access or backup-and-restore, you’ll need to upgrade to the Professional Plus plan.
Despite claiming to be a budget hosting provider, One.com offers a good range of features that will add value for both beginners and experts alike. For example, all hosting plans include the basic version of the website building tool that is mobile-responsive and allows up to five website pages. If you want more features and pages, you can select the higher version of the website building tool. They also offer calendar, gallery, and blog integrations plus a one-click installer for WordPress. Experts get support for PHP version 7, MariaDB and both SSH and FTP access. E-commerce owners should be sure to check out the “online shop” plans that come out-of-the-box with shopping cart integrations, store designs, and more.
Unlike most hosting providers, One.com doesn’t boast about its uptime. However, the friendly live chat operator advised me that their servers have 100% uptime, run on renewable energy, and benefit from 24/7 monitoring. One caveat is that the company does have some negative reviews, which implies there have been some potentially significant downtime issues.
All plans use SSD storage (which means disk read/write speeds up to ten times faster than traditional HDD), and they use One.com’s proprietary control panel.
Pricing and Support
One.com’s Starter package is 100% free for the first year, then the low monthly fees kick in at the start of the second year. The Professional Plus plan is reduced by 50% for the first year.
The nice part is that although the fees are heavily discounted for the first year, the second year is still priced fairly. Also, incredibly, SSL certificates are included in all hosting plans and .com, .co.uk, .one, and .uk domains are free for one year. To top it off, there is a 15-day money-back guarantee. Fair pricing terms all round, I think.
I’m impressed by One.com’s 24/7 customer services that can be accessed by live chat or email (with different email addresses for different departments). What’s more, I contacted the company at unusual times – during a public holiday, and on a Sunday morning – and both times the operator answered my queries immediately. If you prefer to support yourself, you will also find a reasonably detailed knowledge base on their website.
