10 Best Web Hosts for Canada Tested in 2025 (+ 4 To Avoid)

Headshot of Caitlin Greyling Written by:

As far as web hosting goes, Canadians have it pretty good. Local providers have some of the most competitive offers I’ve seen. Canadians can also take advantage of US-based hosts and infrastructure.

Even so, you have to be careful because not all hosts (local or international) deliver on their promise. Some lure you in with low base prices but don’t provide free SSL, backups, a domain, or other essentials, requiring you to pay extra for these. Others fail to deliver adequate technical assistance or performance.

I set out to find the best web hosting services for Canadian websites and customers. Some of the small local providers I tested did surprisingly well, while others were slower (and more expensive) than international hosts with data centers outside of Canada.

Hostinger – an international host with global coverage – came out on top for both value and performance. You get discounted hosting for up to your first 4 years, a few months of free hosting, and fast loading speeds in North America and beyond. Below, you’ll find all the details you need to make an informed choice about whether Hostinger or another top-ranked host for Canada is best for you.

Short on Time? These Are the Best Web Hosts for Canada in 2025:

  1. Hostinger – Affordable long-term plans and fantastic performance with multilingual (French incl.) support.
  2. HostArmada – Powerful cloud hosting with global reach, and data centers in both Canada and the US.
  3. GreenGeeks High-speed web hosting using eco-friendly servers based in Canada.

What We Look for in the Best Web Hosts for Canada

My team and I signed up for several months of hosting with each provider, and I used this information to compile my top Canadian hosts list. Here’s what I focused on:
  • Features. I looked for providers that give you plenty of storage space and bandwidth – but I didn’t stop there. I also made sure they offer SSL certificates, automatic backups, built-in caching, and other essential features. While these features are standard globally, Canadian hosts sometimes fall short.
  • Ease of use. Extra points went to those hosts that made it easier for us to sign up, connect a domain, set up WordPress, and launch a site. I prioritized hosts that cater to beginners, including those offering multilingual dashboards, especially in French and English.
  • Excellent performance in Canada. Most reviewers run speed and reliability benchmarks on blank websites, so their results aren’t realistic. I tested each host’s speed, global performance, and uptime using a WordPress-based website with text, images, and plugins.
  • Support. I contacted each host through live chat, phone, and tickets (where possible). We rated these interactions based on availability, waiting time, and helpfulness. I’ve taken these results into consideration in my rankings, as well as the availability of local Canadian support in French and English.
  • Canadian or US infrastructure. Some of the hosts on my list are local, while others are international hosts with Canadian or nearby US data centers or CDN locations. Having your audience be in close proximity to the data center helps achieve faster, more stable performance.
If your target audience is based in Canada, choosing a host with local data centers can help – but it’s not always the best option. In our tests, most Canadian hosts performed poorly with loading speeds over 2 seconds. Rather, you’ll want an international host with a network of data centers worldwide.

In our tests, international providers, especially those with US-based data centers, consistently outperformed local competitors. You may have to pay in USD (or another foreign currency), and your data could be subject to US or international laws and regulations. However, reputable global hosts typically meet Canadian privacy standards, including compliance with PIPEDA.

Hostinger web hosting landing page
Can a host with plans this cheap really offer “everything you need?” I had to see for myself
Of all the services I tested, Hostinger has the best deals on long-term shared hosting plans. Its entry-level Premium plan is roughly the same price as a ten-pack of Timbits. While less tasty, this plan gives you plenty of storage space and bandwidth, a free domain, a full security suite, daily/weekly backups, a 99.9% uptime guarantee, and built-in caching. In short, it has everything you need to host a simple website and is very beginner-friendly.

Given the low price, I worried that performance might be subpar. I put Hostinger through some rigorous testing, and the results were surprising. Not only did Hostinger deliver faster page loading speeds than most other low-cost providers, but its performance was consistently great around the world. Its Phoenix and Boston data centers also run 100% on renewable energy, and Hostinger complies with the PIPEDA Act.

Plus, Hostinger includes its own CDN with Business Shared Hosting plans and above. While it doesn’t list Canadian locations, you can also use Cloudflare’s CDN separately if preferred. The only real downside with Hostinger is that it upsells, but feel free to ignore the popups – chances are, you don’t actually have to upgrade anything since Hostinger’s plans are more than generous. Just watch out for renewal rates – locking in a 2–4 year plan helps keep costs low.

Features

  • Streamlined control panel. Compared to the traditional cPanel, Hostinger’s hPanel is less cluttered and easier to navigate. All the important tools are there, including a one-click installer for dozens of CMSs. Plus, it’s free with all plans.
  • Powerful caching. Hostinger uses the LiteSpeed web server, which comes with built-in caching for superior performance. You’ll find the Cache Manager in your dashboard, ready to go. You can also take full advantage of the LSCache plugin.
  • Managed WordPress features. Hostinger creates backups of your website on a weekly or daily basis (depending on your plan) and automatically updates your core WordPress installation and plugins. Most hosts make you pay extra for both of these perks.
  • Multilingual support. Canada is a land of many languages, and Hostinger offers support in lots of them, including English and French. Its site and panel can also be adapted to multiple languages, though payment isn’t available in CAD.

2. HostArmada: Cloud Hosting Servers in Canada and a Strong North American Presence

HostArmada web hosting landing page
HostArmada is a 100% cloud provider, even on its shared hosting plans
If you’re looking for a little better performance, HostArmada offers beginner-friendly cloud hosting with managed WordPress features. While similar to Hostinger, there are key differences. Mainly, HostArmada only offers a range of cloud hosting options, including shared cloud, cloud VPS, and dedicated cloud. I found its support is also a little more hands-on than Hostinger’s, which may suit complete beginners better.

While HostArmada isn’t Canadian-owned, it has a strong presence and enviable performance in the region. In fact, after Hostinger, it performed best in our tests for North America, with loading speeds of half a second or less. This is because HostArmada has a data center in Toronto, as well as 7 more US servers for VPS or shared hosting. You can also integrate with Cloudflare CDN to boost global performance or opt for a LiteSpeed Speed Reaper plan.

Uptime was stable and is backed by a 99.9% guarantee. Additionally, you can lock in your first term discounted rate for up to 3 years with shared hosting. While shorter than Hostinger’s 4 years and lacking its 3 months of free hosting, you have to remember that HostArmada’s offer is for cloud hosting, not general shared hosting. If there is one caveat, it’s the acceptable usage bandwidth limits for shared plans, but you still have a good amount to work with (30 GB on the cheapest plan).

A free domain name is included with some hosting plans from HostArmada

Features

  • Free domain name. HostArmada offers a free domain name with all shared hosting plans, provided you select an annual or longer term. Plus, Canadian .ca top-level domains (TLDs) are included in the free selection, which is rarely the case.
  • WordPress staging environment. As part of your HostArmada cPanel panel, you get access to the Softaculous staging environment. This tool allows you to clone your site and independently test out changes before going live.
  • Multilingual support. HostArmada’s cPanel dashboard is very user-friendly and can be set to multiple languages, including French and Spanish. However, customer support is predominantly in English.
  • Advanced security suite. All plans are backed with premium security, including three different types of firewalls, malware scanning, account isolation, daily backups, 24/7/365 server monitoring, and much more.

GreenGeeks web hosting landing page
GreenGeeks is one of the few eco-friendly hosts – and it’s available in Canada!
Many hosting providers claim to be eco-friendly, but often just slap on this label to better market their services. Fortunately, GreenGeeks isn’t just a “green gimmick”. Although it doesn’t run on renewable energy like some of Hostinger’s data centers, it does offset its energy consumption by purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) worth 300% of its energy consumption. It also plants a tree for every new web hosting customer.

This environmentally friendly host packs performance into its plans as well. With a data center in Montreal, GreenGeeks was one of the fastest hosts that we tested for Canada. In our tests, load times for this region were consistently under two seconds – and it also performed well in the US and parts of Europe. However, there’s no non-English support or CAD payments, and unlike Hostinger and HostArmada, first-term discounts are only available for annual plans.

GreenGeeks only offers shared and VPS hosting and some plan resources can be lacking. While the entry-level plan offers nightly backups, a free domain, and unlimited databases, you’ll only be able to host one site with 25GB of storage space. Upgrading to the Pro plan for a few dollars more per month unlocks unlimited sites and 50 GB storage, though all shared plans include a 99.9% uptime guarantee, unlimited bandwidth, and a free domain name.

Features

  • WordPress repair toolkit. Available for all plans except Lite plan, this one-click tool promises to repair up to 90% of the most common WordPress issues. These include WordPress database optimizations, administrator logins, file and .htaccess configurations, and more.
  • Multi-user access. All of GreenGeeks’ hosting plans allow for multi-user access. You can easily collaborate with designers, developers, employees, or business partners on your site design and management.
  • 1-click Installer. Using GreenGeeks’ installer, you can install over 150 web apps, CMSs (WordPress, Joomla!, etc.), and more – all without writing a single line of code.
  • Daily backups. GreenGeeks will automatically back up your site daily or on demand, depending on the plan you choose. Plus, GreenGeeks isn’t stingy on the security features, with an enterprise-level firewall, free malware cleanups, and more.

IONOS web hosting landing page
IONOS’ plans include all the essentials, even a generous 99.99% uptime guarantee
For the more tech-savvy hoster, IONOS offers a wide range of unmanaged hosting types at low prices, even for VPS, cloud, and dedicated servers. While the host has no Canadian data centers, its three US-based data centers serve fast loading speeds and reliable uptime to Canadian audiences. In fact, IONOS offers some impressively fast loading speeds (<0.5 seconds) in Canada and the US. Additionally, its US data centers run on wind power.

IONOS even offers support in multiple languages, including English and French. You can switch to its Canadian site at the bottom of the page to access local language settings and customer support. Live chat and additional contact options are available in your chosen language. Additionally, IONOS plans can be paid for in CAD when you use its Canadian site.

One of IONOS’ top features is its 99.99% uptime guarantee, an extra 0.09% compared to most other hosts. It also includes unmetered 1 Gbit/sec bandwidth on most plans, even for VPS and dedicated servers, which is relatively rare. Renewal rates are also lower than our other top hosts, sometimes as little as 30–100% more, as opposed to 4–5 times more. Discounts last for 3 years on Canadian plans and 1 year in the US.

A free domain name is included with some hosting plans from IONOS

Features

  • Free domain privacy. Select plans include a free domain name with domain privacy. If you purchase your domain from or transfer it to IONOS, you also get this free domain privacy offer added on.
  • Optional paid CDN. The IONOS CDN is cloud-based and can be added to any of its plans for a monthly fee. While it’s expensive, it’s worth it for e-commerce and other global sites that need top performance.
  • Geo-redundant servers. IONOS mirrors your site data in two data centers, which ensures minimal downtime. If that wasn’t enough to secure your site, daily backups, malware scans, DDoS protection, and a Wildcard SSL are also included.
  • Quick setup. Through its Click & Build system, IONOS supports one-click installs for WordPress, Joomla, MediaWiki, OpenCart, and more. So, you get the benefit of user-friendliness with the full flexibility of unmanaged hosting.

5. SiteGround: Easy Cloud-Based Hosting, Ideal for Demanding Sites

SiteGround web hosting landing page
SiteGround is a forerunner in e-commerce-friendly shared and cloud web hosting
SiteGround’s high-performance hosting is built on Google Cloud’s vast, reliable cloud network, making it perfect for e-commerce or more demanding sites. Google Cloud also matches 100% of its energy usage with renewables to remain carbon neutral, so it’s an eco-friendly option.

Though SiteGround itself lacks Canadian data centers, it has a strong presence in the US. You also get the SiteGround CDN free with all plans on the Free Tier and have the option to upgrade to Premium Tier for a fee. While there are also no Canadian SiteGround CDN locations, there are plenty of US-based locations across the East and West Coasts, as well as in the Central US.

The host offers support in French, along with English. The full website including, Site Tools, dashboard, and knowledge base articles are all in French at fr.siteground.com. That said, payment is in USD, renewals are steep, and it only has shared and cloud plans, with the latter coming at a premium.

Features

  • Essential tools and security. In addition to Site Tools, SiteGround’s in-house dashboard that lets you manage your SSL, caching, and CDN, you get enhanced security. True to form, SiteGround has its own anti-bot AI system, plus a web application firewall.
  • Advanced caching system. As a technologically independent host, SiteGround brings its own out-of-the-box caching system, the SuperCacher, to the table. It features an NGINX static and dynamic cache or a Memcached option for custom-built sites.
  • Automated WordPress tools. As part of your SiteGround plan, you get a bunch of useful WordPress tools. These include a 1-click WordPress installer, an auto-migrator tool, auto-updates, the Speed and Security Optimizer plugins, WP-CLI, and more.
  • Collaborative tools for agencies. SiteGround understands that building and maintaining a site is a collaborative process. It lets you add collaborators with individual logins to Site Tools and separate access to support and billing.

6. Web Hosting Canada: Feature-Packed 100% Canadian-Owned Hosting

Web Hosting Canada landing page
Montreal-based Web Hosting Canada (WHC) offers most of the features you’ll need for a simple website
Of all the Canadian hosts on my list, Web Hosting Canada returned some of the fastest loading speeds. While it didn’t beat the top four overall, its speeds were satisfactory at around 2 seconds or less. Plus, all of its data centers are powered by hydroelectricity and eco-cooled, and the company operates paperlessly.

In terms of value, it’s also the most comprehensive Canadian option. Most of Web Hosting Canada’s plans offer a number of solid features: 99.9% uptime guarantee, 1-click app and CMS installs, a website builder (SiteMojo), and a $600 Google Ads credit.

Performance across Canada is reliable, although it tends to worsen dramatically outside of the country. Still, if you have a mostly local audience, this shouldn’t be a problem. Renewal rates are also slightly more reasonable than some of the other hosts on this list, and you can lock in your first-term deal for 1 to 3 years.

Features

  • Multilingual support. Web Hosting Canada offers support in both English and French, catering to both local and international customers. You can also switch between these languages on the Web Hosting Canada website and dashboard for easy access.
  • Unlimited bandwidth. With Web Hosting Canada, you get unlimited bandwidth on all plans, even its cloud and dedicated servers. A fair usage policy applies, but no specific data limits are listed.
  • cPanel dashboard. Web Hosting Canada’s plans include the industry-standard cPanel control panel. Aside from a user-friendly layout and tons of useful tools, this panel includes Softaculous, a 1-click installer supporting 380+ web apps like WordPress.
  • Free .ca domain name. Being a Canadian-owned and run host, Web Hosting Canada doesn’t just include a free domain name but a Canadian .ca one. You can also choose from popular .com, .org, .net, .info, and .biz top-level domains, if you prefer.

Other Notable Web Hosts in Canada

7. InterServer

InterServer web hosting landing page
InterServer’s NJ and LA data centers are close to major Canadian cities
InterServer keeps things simple with a single shared hosting plan that offers unlimited websites and resources, including ULTRA SSD storage space, bandwidth, and email accounts. The best part? This plan happens to have the cheapest monthly billing cycle on this list.

If you have multiple low-traffic websites, the generous resources and low monthly billing makes it one of your better options. This plan also includes a free Cloudflare CDN, which can further boost your website’s performance for Canadian visitors.

Best of all, the host has a 99.9% uptime guarantee and provides great performance for Canadian customers and sites. InterServer’s data centers are all in the US, but during my tests, I got fantastic speeds throughout North America from the New Jersey data center. However, it doesn’t have multilingual support or CAD payments.

8. Kinsta

Kinsta web hosting landing page
Kinsta offers unparalleled Google Cloud-based hosting
What sets Kinsta apart (and justifies its high price) is the high-performance, carbon-neutral Google infrastructure.

This network includes two data centers in Canada and a free CDN. So you can rest assured your local audience will be as well served as your international one. In fact, Kinsta returned some of the fastest loading speeds we’ve seen in tests, often hitting the 0.5-second mark. It also achieved 100% uptime and offers a 99.9% uptime guarantee.

Aside from top-tier performance, you can also expect a high level of managed site maintenance. Kinsta’s cloud plans are truly fully managed – you’ll never have to do any of the site setup or optimizations yourself. That said, Kinsta uses some automations where necessary to keep everything running smoothly. If you do need assistance, you can also get it in multiple languages, including English, French, and Spanish.

9. HostUpon

HostUpon web hosting landing page
HostUpon is a local host offering surprisingly good performance worldwide
HostUpon is a Canadian host that has a single data center based in Toronto. So, I was surprised by HostUpon’s exceptional results on GTmetrix and Sucuri Load Time Tester. It’s one of the fastest hosts for Canada (with an impressive loading speed of 1 second or less in our GTmetrix tests), and it got a rare A grade from Sucuri for global performance. To top it all off, uptime was nearly perfect – 99.999% (its SLA is 99.9%) – throughout the testing period.

Naturally, HostUpon supports CAD payments and offers support in local languages, and it also implements eco-friendly initiatives. That said, there is a reason HostUpon is not higher up on my list. Both its Starter and Business plans lack an SSL certificate (it costs extra) and automatic backups. While these extras are part of the Premium plan, it’s hard to recommend this when cheaper options like Hostinger and InterServer exist.

10. SKGOLD Hosting

SKGOLD web hosting landing page
SKGOLD is definitely affordable, but resources are thrifty
A Calgary-based, Canadian-owned hosting provider, SKGOLD Hosting appears dated – and I’m not just saying that because of its early 2000s website design. The features you get with its plans are very limited, but the provider does have some redeeming qualities. For example, I found its performance surprisingly decent. It wasn’t as fast as some of the other Canadian hosts on my list, but it did well enough.

SKGOLD is also pretty cheap compared to other local providers (starting prices are just $1.88), but this is a classic case of “you get what you pay for”. If you opt for the entry-level Baby plan, you get 300 MB of storage space, 5 GB of bandwidth, and a 99.9% uptime SLA. But if all you need to do is host a landing page or basic site, it can suit your needs perfectly. Additionally, the low quoted prices are full cost, meaning they won’t renew at a higher price.

Canadian Web Hosts to Avoid

During testing, we also came across some hosts that you should avoid. Most have redeeming qualities, but in general, you can definitely get better performance, support, features, and value elsewhere.

CanSpace

CanSpace web hosting landing page
CanSpace might not be the slowest host that I tested, but it came disappointingly close
I wouldn’t say CanSpace is a bad host, but it certainly lacks a lot of features that the services on my list have. Sure, all of its servers are 100% powered by Canadian green energy, and the entry-level Starter plan is relatively cheap, but you’ll have limited storage space and bandwidth. There are also very few features besides free SSL. To get more resources, you’d have to go with either the Medium or Professional plan – and as you can guess, both are significantly pricier.

As for performance, CanSpace is one of the slowest Canadian hosts I’ve tested. Its uptime was good (99.986%), but page loading speeds averaged just over 3.5 seconds, according to GTmetrix. Weirdly enough, performance was better in Germany, the Netherlands, and France than in some parts of Canada, even though the data center is in Quebec. There are simply cheaper (and much better) options on this list.

Canadian Web Hosting

Canadian Web Hosting landing page
At least CWH gives you 60 days to change your mind and is PIPEDA-compliant
Aside from its 100% hydro-powered data centers, there’s not much going for Canadian Web Hosting (CWH). Uptime was slightly lower than the promised 99.5–99.9% (depending on your plan) during my tests, and loading speeds varied wildly. The host has added cPanel to its shared plans, but with such unreliable uptime and loading speeds, I can’t recommend it.

Cirrus Hosting

Cirrus Hosting web hosting landing page
Great features – but they won’t stop your visitors from bouncing if your site loads slowly
Toronto-based Cirrus Hosting covers most of the basics, but the platform has issues that are difficult to ignore. While I appreciate the generous 30 GB of NVMe SSD storage available on the entry-level plan, I can’t ignore how poorly it performed. The average loading time was almost 3 seconds, and uptime was well under the 99.9% standard.

My experience with customer support was good, but only via ticket. Live chat was operated by non-native English speakers who offered little help before abandoning the session. Given that Cirrus Hosting’s prices are relatively high, its service is not easy to recommend.

HostPapa

HostPapa web hosting landing page
The most I got from the “PapaSquad” were upsells, so… no thanks
As much as HostPapa is often regarded as one of the best Canadian hosting services, I can’t recommend it. My team and I spent several months testing HostPapa, and our conclusion is that it’s way too pricey for what it offers. While it has lots of resources, automatic backups are not included in most plans (no go), and its servers are not properly optimized for best performance. In fact, HostPapa was one of the slowest hosts I’ve tested.

This Burlington host does offer a 99.9% SLA, is PIPEDA compliant, and customer support was usually quick to respond (and available in English and French, along with other languages). Unfortunately, some support agents focused entirely on upselling rather than answering my questions. Plus, HostPapa’s “affordable” prices are only available prior to renewal. In some cases, you can end up paying 5 times the initial fee once the first term runs out.

Choose the Best Host for Your Canadian Website

There are several exceptional Canadian hosting options on our list but ultimately, your experience level, website needs, and audience location will determine the best host for you. If you’re in a hurry (or feeling a bit lost), these are my recommendations for web hosting in Canada:

If you want to host a simple, low- to medium-traffic site, Hostinger should be at the top of your list. It’s an international host but its US data centers offer phenomenal loading speeds throughout North America and beyond. Hostinger’s entry-level plan is incredibly cheap even after renewal, and it gives you everything you need to host a successful website.

If you’re looking for cloud hosting, HostArmada is a go-to solution, with a vast global cloud network and affordable shared cloud plans. Its North American performance and customer support are also on par with Hostinger, though French is not a supported language.

In comparison, GreenGeeks is the best choice if you prioritize sustainability and performance. It’s an eco-friendly hosting provider that matches three times its energy usage with renewable energy credits and plants a tree for every new customer. Plus, its Montreal-based data center delivers fast load times across Canada.

Check out the table below to see a side-by-side comparison of the best web hosts in Canada and their entry-level shared hosting plans:
Standout feature Data center locations Free Domain Starting price
Hostinger Cheap, fast, and reliable shared hosting plans with multilingual support Arizona, Massachusetts, and New York $2.99
HostArmada Beginner-friendly cloud hosting with helpful support and great loading speeds in North America Toronto, New Jersey, Illinois, Georgia, Florida, Texas, and California $2.49
InterServer Flexible shared monthly plan with unlimited features New Jersey and Los Angeles $2.50
GreenGeeks Eco-friendly Canadian hosting Montreal, Quebec and Illinois $2.95
IONOS Low-cost, dev-friendly unmanaged hosting accepting CAD payments Nevada, New Jersey, and Kansas $1.00
SiteGround Powerful Google Cloud hosting ideal for Canadian and international e-commerce sites Virginia, Iowa, Texas, and California $2.99
Web Hosting Canada Local 100% Canadian-owned host with bilingual (French/English) support and plenty of features Toronto and Vancouver $2.88

FAQ

How much should I pay for hosting in Canada?

If you want to host a simple website, you don’t need to spend a lot. For example, Hostinger is very affordable when you sign up long-term. If you’d rather have a guaranteed, low monthly rate, InterServer has the most cost-effective plan. However, the price you pay and the value you get depends on your needs, so be sure to compare each host’s plans and features.

Does it matter where you host your website?

Absolutely. This is one of the most important things to consider when you choose your provider. The closer the web server is to your audience, the faster your website will load. But be careful: not all local hosts perform the same server optimizations. International hosts are often a better option if you want to reach a global audience, especially those with multiple data centers worldwide and advanced caching and performance optimizations.

Is Bluehost good for websites in Canada?

Bluehost pops up in many web hosting reviews, but we’ve tested it alongside other popular providers, and it failed to wow us for Canadian sites. Most of its features are already free, making the price too high for what you’re getting. GreenGeeks is a host with servers in Canada, and it performed much better than Bluehost in our tests and has the added benefit of offering eco-friendly hosting.

Can I use Hostinger in Canada?

Yes, you can. In fact, in our tests, Hostinger served impressively fast loading speeds and reliable uptime in Canada. With a strong presence in North America and globally, your site will perform well for visitors both local and international. Hostinger also offers support in French and other languages, as well as a comprehensive feature set on all managed plans.

Which is the best host for Canada?

It depends. Hostinger would be my go-to provider for a small or mid-sized website targeting a global audience (e.g., personal blog, a portfolio, a business landing page, or even a small online store). It’s super-affordable and offers outstanding performance both in Canada and around the globe. You’ll also find several other exceptional options on our list of the best web hosting services.

I agree that HostPapa is the evil one to avoid. Their 'upsell practices' are relentless and unethical. I say this after having been a HostPapa customer for 8 years. Stay away from HostPapa!

This list is not as useful as you might think because most of the prices listed are for the first month or first year only.
