This week we talked with Daniel Pearson, CEO of KnownHost, a web hosting company based in the United States and with datacenters in the US and Amsterdam (Netherlands). Check out our talk about the web hosting market, the future, what makes KnownHost different and more.
Please tell us a bit about the history of the company
In 2006 when we started our business, there were plenty of hosting companies to choose from, that is why we set out to make KnownHost different. We designed a platform built with top of the line software & hardware, crafted to provide the best web hosting experience with security, availability, performance and the dependency necessary to create our state of the art hosting platform for our customers – unlike any competitor.
Our commitment to great service and plans have grown just as we have! Starting with only a few plans, a few employees, and a few customers, KnownHost has tripled in size in every direction. We’ve met our milestones and goals thus far, and we plan to continue developing to ensure continuous satisfaction to our customers!
The web hosting market is pretty crowded, with competitors from all types. How do you excel and differentiate in that context?
Security is one of our top priorities, making it also one of our greatest strengths. All of our services have security options and configurations in mind. From optimizing server installations for hardened configurations to free SSL certificates across all service aspects and offering software such as Imunify 360/ImunifyAV+ to help protect websites against malware, even going one step further by providing 10gbit DDoS protection on a redundant network.
We provide the platform giving site owners a starting point that’s much more secure than many competitors. Performance is another one of our key priorities. Backed by enterprise-grade hardware, KnownHost takes brand name, premium components like SSD’s, CPU’s, RAM and network related equipment and designing systems which take advantage of the strengths of each component.
Providing a route optimized network for the least latency to utilizing SSD’s for the fastest response. Always ensuring that our firmware always up to date – new hardware is constantly replacing any aging equipment. Beyond our enterprise-grade hardware, we offer software such as Litespeed and LSCache to help take websites to the next level.
Providing all the options to give customers every possible performance advantage. At KnownHost, dependability is certainly one of our greatest strengths! Dependability to us means more than just an uptime guarantee.
We invest in enterprise-grade hardware to ensure that system failures rarely occur. To further help minimize downtime, we utilize services such as Kernel Care which allows for updates to be performed without having to take down the server. On the off chance that web owners do come across any issues, our expert technical support staff are prepared to identify a solution 24/7/365!
That’s how we achieve our 99.99% uptime across hundreds of services. Our years of operation shows that we have stood the test of time on being a reliable provider that customers can depend on.
What are the biggest challenges looking forward and what is KnownHost’s vision for the future?
At KnownHost, we are always looking towards the future. We strive to make our services incomparable to competitors by continually making improvements where we see fit. Our goal will always be to take care of our customers needs, as well as keeping up with the demands of the industry.
Being green and sustainable is a goal for many companies. How does KnownHost work to be more connected with those demands?
In 2019, KnownHost joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Green Power Partnership. KnownHost uses about 1,600,000 kilowatt-hours of green power annually, which is enough green power to meet more than 100 percent of the KnownHost’s electricity use. This green power comes from wind generation.
By using wind power and setting this goal, KnownHost is helping advance the voluntary market for green power and development of those sources. By joining this movement, KnownHost helps to reduce the negative health impacts of air emissions including those related to ozone, fine particles, acid rain, and regional haze.
“Going green” is a top priority within the company, we continually look to not only better the company for our customers, but for the environment as well.
Why should an e-commerce owner choose KnownHost and not other company
When your business depends on e-commerce transactions, website hosting and payment processing are the lifeline of your small business. As an e-commerce site owner, you cannot afford to lose transactions due to site downtime.
Your e-commerce website deserves to be placed on a state of the art SSD, cloudbased server, offered by KnownHost. Our packages can outpace the competition, allowing you to stay online when they go down, all while giving your customers the best shopping experience possible — fast and responsive.
What do you see as the main concerns users have when they choose a web hosting service? Is it security, good support or price is the first, second and third criteria?
Security is a crucial aspect to consider when looking for web hosting. At KnownHost, we know site owners’ data is critical, which is why we make redundant offsite copies of active files and include multiple system snapshots so that you can restore files to an earlier point in time whenever they’re needed. Plus backups are included for no additional cost.
Host dependability is also critical for site owners. ‘If you can’t trust your web host, can your audience trust your website?’ We strive to be a web hosting provide our customers can always rely on, that is why we hire the most driven and advanced technical team the industry has to offer. Giving our customers superb 24/7/365 support is something we pride ourselves on.
While some hosting providers may come with a cheaper price tag, note that price will not come with high quality hosting.
