The 3 Keys To Email Deliverability in 2024: Q/A with Orisma Technology CTO Wongsakorn Nawbantad

Website Planet invited Mr. Wongsakorn Nawbantad, CTO of Orisma Technology, to discuss three crucial factors that are probably affecting your email deliverability, but you didn’t know, as few talk about them.

What unique challenges are people in your industry facing right now?

Being in this industry is not an easy feat, we encounter issues and setbacks too.

However, this makes it more challenging and fuels our team to do better and find solutions to solve problems. I would like to share 3 issues and how to fix them:

1. IP Warming

IP warming is a crucial step for new IP addresses to establish trust with ISPs and maximise your email deliverability rates.

When you start sending emails from a new IP with no prior history, ISPs don’t have a clue about your sending practices. IP warming allows you to slowly ramp up your email volume and prove to ISPs that you are not spamming. This way you avoid triggering spam filters and protect your sender reputation.

Without proper IP warming, emails from a new IP may be flagged as spam or not delivered at all. ISPs often throttle or block emails from an IP address sending sudden high volumes of emails. If your IP address has a poor reputation, your emails are more likely to end up in the spam folder rather than the recipient’s inbox.

How to Fix it:
we have an internal process about warming the IP to swap in the IP Pool to maintain volume automatically. As our IP establishes good sending history, deliverability will improve and more emails will make it to the inbox.

2. Blacklist Monitoring

Having your sender’s domain or IP address listed on a blacklist damages your sender reputation, reducing the chances of your emails landing in subscribers’ inboxes, which will be most likely blocked or tagged as spam.

By monitoring blacklists and taking proactive measures to avoid being listed on any of them, you safeguard your online reputation, and therefore increase your email deliverability.

Some customers do not have a good email list, and this puts us at risk of having our IPs blacklisted.

How to Fix:
we have a blacklisted monitoring process, our system has a process to check if all of the IP is listed with a lot of Real-Time Blackhole List (RBL) or not. If we list , we have an automation process to handle it.

3. Unknown Bounce

An unknown bounce occurs when the email server rejects the email and doesn’t provide an identifying error code. This is usually treated as a soft bounce.

When we send a lot of email with a lot of different servers. Often we found new responses or new patterns that tell us if one can receive our email or not. We need to understand what it means.

How to Fix:
We have AI to learn and analyze Unknown Bounce (First new bounce response we didn’t know before) AI will try to analyze that wording and mark bounce groups to declare automatically. However, we still have some case labels with low accuracy for this case system will alarm the real person to analyze it.

  • A/B Testing to compare variations of one or more elements in an email, and choose the best performing one based on data

  • Periodical synchronization of your list with your MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle database and Salesforce, all through secure protocols

Email in the next 5 to 10 years maybe will be different with the current email landscape as of today. New devices in the future will change how we serve content in recipient’s inboxes. I guess it is something that we have to look forward to in the future.
