Hostinger vs Liquid Web – Hard to Choose, but I Did [2021]

Mark Holden

Hostinger and Liquid Web are two powerful web hosts that provide top-of-the-line hosting services to different web hosting users. So, it all depends on what you’re looking for in a web hosting service.

Hostinger caters to beginners, professionals, and small to medium business owners. Liquid Web is geared toward more demanding users such as developers, larger companies, and enterprises. That’s why, it all comes to the little details that will prove which host is actually better for your needs.

To fairly compare Hostinger and Liquid Web, I tested both services across multiple categories. Liquid Web came on top in two out of five rounds, that’s why Hostinger won this comparison.

1. Plans and Pricing

Hostinger Keeps Your Budget Intact with More VPS Plans at Lower Prices

Hostinger offers six VPS plans for Linux and four VPS plans for Windows. In contrast, Liquid Web has four VPS plans for Linux and three VPS plans for Windows.

When you observe the price lists offered by Hostinger and Liquid Web, you’ll find that Hostinger offers cheaper Linux and Windows VPS packages, even without the introductory discount rates.

But, it’s understandable that Liquid Web charges such high prices since it supplies its high-end customers with fully managed VPS servers as opposed to Hostinger’s unmanaged VPS hosting plans for less demanding customers.

Hostinger offers a free domain name with selected hosting packages, but Liquid Web doesn’t offer it at all. Hostinger also offers a 30-day money-back guarantee with all hosting plans (including VPS hosting), whereas Liquid Web offers a 14-day money-back guarantee with its WordPress hosting packages only. Both hosts offer free website migration.

The winner? Hostinger. Hostinger offers significantly cheaper VPS hosting prices for Linux and Windows compared to Liquid Web. Nevertheless, if you prefer a fully managed VPS service and don’t mind the high cost of service, then you should go with Liquid Web.

2. Features

Liquid Web Outshines Hostinger by Offering More Value-Added Features for VPS

We’ve already established that unlike Hostinger, Liquid Web’s VPS hosting packages for both Linux and Windows systems come fully managed, which saves you a great deal of time and effort managing your server by yourself.

With Hostinger’s VPS plans for Linux, you get from 20 GB to 160 GB SSD storage, 1 GB to 8 GB RAM, 1 TB to 8 TB bandwidth, dedicated IP address, and full root access.

In contrast, Liquid Web’s VPS plans for Linux come with 40 GB to 200 GB SSD storage, 10 TB bandwidth, and from 2 GB to 8 GB RAM.

All plans also come with free 100 GB daily backup quota, free site remediation and protection, and premium business email service.

Use the following table to further compare Hostinger and Liquid Web:

The winner? Liquid Web. As you can see, Liquid Web offers more advanced features and higher resource allocations with its VPS plans. In addition, it offers fully managed VPS as opposed to Hostinger’s unmanaged VPS offerings.

3. Performance

Hostinger’s Website Loading Speeds are Slightly Faster

Hostinger’s data centers are located in the U.K., Brazil, U.S.A., Indonesia, Singapore, the Netherlands, and Lithuania. Liquid Web, on the other hand, only has three server locations including two in the U.S.A., and one in the Netherlands. This means that Hostinger has a more global advantage, in terms of server locations.

Both hosts include a free CDN with all their plans. CDN, or Content Delivery Network, is a performance boosting feature that improves the loading speed of your website globally by placing it on a global network of cloud servers.

Another performance boosting feature is the use of SSD storage instead of the traditional HDD storage. SSD storage performs much faster, when it comes to website data processing hence improving the stability, loading speed, and overall performance of your website. Both hosts use SSD storage with all their plans.

The uptime guarantee promised by both hosts is 99.9%. Both hosts exceeded this promise with a perfect actual uptime, when tested on the long run.

I used Sucuri to test the global loading speeds of Hostinger and all the tested locations showed perfect loading times leading to a perfect global score. Checkout Hostinger’s full review for the details of the tests.

When the same test was performed on Liquid Web, the majority of locations showed great loading speeds with just a few minor locations showing slightly slower loading times. This resulted in a global score of just below perfect. The exact test numbers can be found in Liquid Web’s detailed review.

Both hosts offer a wide range of performance features and both showed perfect actual uptimes, but Hostinger barely wins this round with its slightly faster global loading speeds.

4. Security

Hostinger’s More Advanced Security Measures are Applied on More Levels

Hostinger protects its websites and servers by applying DDoS protection on multiple levels. These include Wanguard anti-DDoS traffic analyzer and intelligent firewall rules on switch level, BitNinja or Immunity360 (Web Application Firewall) on each server, and custom web server rules.

On the other hand, Liquid Web has 24/7 server monitoring, DDoS protection, strong firewalls, HTTP intrusion protection and daily security audits with all its plans and services.

With their Linux-based shared hosting plans, both hosts use CloudLinux OS which securely isolates each account from other accounts sharing the same server. This protects the account from any external threats targeting any other account on the server. In addition, CloudLinux OS ensures that the server’s resources are allocated fairly among all accounts.

Both hosts include free automatic regular backups with all their plans, but Hostinger takes weekly backups and Liquid Web takes daily backups.

Despite the difference in the backups process, Hostinger offers slightly more advanced security features and applies them on more levels. In other words, Hostinger wins the security round by a thin margin.

5. Support

Liquid Web Offers More Support Options and They’re More Responsive

Both hosts’ websites enjoy extensive and highly organized Knowledgebase sections through which you can easily find articles and tutorials covering numerous major topics.

Hostinger’s support is available 24/7 through live chat and support ticket. Unfortunately, it can sometimes take time to get connected to a live chat agent, but once you are, you’ll definitely get the help you need as they are very knowledgeable and professional.

Liquid Web also has 24/7 support. Contacting the support team can be done through live chat, phone, or support ticket. I chose the live chat and I was instantly connected to an agent. All my questions were answered and the agent was professional and very helpful.

[Liquid Web] - [Support chat]

Liquid Web offers more communication channels and its support is more responsive making it the more reliable host, when it comes to seeking help.

Both Are Great, but Hostinger Wins by a Slim Margin

Hostinger and Liquid Web are among the best web hosting services in the market today. It was a bit difficult for Liquid Web to argue with Hostinger’s highly affordable prices, near perfect performance, and strong security levels. That’s why Hostinger earned the winning title of this neck-and-neck comparison.

On the other hand, Liquid Web proved that it offers more sophisticated and feature-rich fully managed VPS hosting packages than Hostinger. In the end, both web hosts deliver great options for their target audience.
