Canva Embeds Into ChatGPT, Announces More AI Integrations

Design platform Canva unveiled two AI-related product updates. The first is a deep research connector for ChatGPT, making it available directly within the popular chatbot. The second is the Canva Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server, which allows users to connect any AI assistant to the platform and generate designs within the chat.

The ChatGPT integration enables the chatbot to retrieve real-time information from a user’s Canva account, including existing designs and documents. Users can access and analyze content without needing to switch tabs or manually enter data. For instance, to locate the latest version of a design, a user can simply ask in natural language, and ChatGPT will fetch it directly within the chat.

This deep search functionality is especially useful for professionals. Marketers can extract messaging from past campaigns to create new, brand-consistent designs. Sales teams can build proposals using previous customer reports, while educators can repurpose earlier lessons for new teaching materials.

The second update, Canva’s MCP Server, takes things a step further by enabling in-chat design creation and editing. It provides AI assistants – such as Anthropic’s Claude – with access to the user’s design workspace, including templates, charts, and previous content.

These context-aware AI assistants will soon be able to execute tasks such as generating brand-aligned visuals, resizing graphics, importing PDFs via URL, auto-filling templates, and more, directly within the chat.

“Just say something like, ‘Generate a pitch deck based on this chat,’ and a new Canva presentation will appear, ready to go,” Anwar Haneef, the Head of Ecosystem at Canva, explains in a press release.

The ChatGPT deep research integration is already available globally. To bring actionable design into more AI interfaces, Canva has invited developers to start building with the MCP Server. One-click integrations for OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Salesforce’s Agentforce are “coming soon.”

Canva has been making bold AI moves since the start of the AI revolution. In 2023, the company released Magic Studio, an AI-powered suite that streamlined content creation and automated various design tasks. With these two new AI updates, Canva continues to push the boundaries of AI-powered design, making professional design more accessible to everyone.
