Graphic design platform Canva
is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a new AI-powered design platform. Magic Studio boasts a suite of AI capabilities that can automate various design tasks.
The new tools
enable users of all design experience levels to create entire designs in seconds. Magic Studio is free for Canva Pro and Canva for Teams users. Those on the free plan can enjoy a limited range of Magic Studio’s tools.
Magic Media enables users to generate images and videos from text prompts. The Magic Design feature works similarly to Magic Media, except it turns text prompts into ready-to-use designs.
Users can transform an existing piece of content into a different format and translate it into 100+ languages with Magic Switch. For example, a user can ask Canva to turn a blog post into an email. This feature enables users to generate multichannel campaigns in seconds by reusing the same design for different formats.
With a simple prompt, Magic Morph can apply special effects, colors, and textures to text and shapes. This feature can cut time needed to prepare themed designs for specific use cases like Christmas and back-to-school promotions. The auto-apply option enables creators to use the same style across multiple designs for a consistent look.
Magic Grab and Magic Expand are photo editing tools. The first enables users to select and separate any object in a picture and further edit it, while the latter offers options like expanding the image frame and rotating the canvas. Other features for image and video editing include Magic Edit, Magic Eraser and Background Remover.
In addition to the AI-powered visual design features, Canva also introduced Magic Write, which can produce on-brand copy in seconds
, summarize or expand it, and give it a fun or formal tone. Canva also launched AI Apps on Canva, bringing together all of the platform’s AI-powered tools, such as OpenAI’s DALL-E and Mojo’s AI and QR art generator.
Alongside Magic Studio, Canva launched a new range of privacy, safety, and security controls grouped under Canva Shield
. It enables enterprise users to manage team access for Magic Studio and offers AI indemnification at no additional charge.
Canva’s new Creator Compensation Program promises to distribute $200 million over the next three years as part of its AI royalties program. Creators can opt out if they don’t want Canva to use their content for AI training.
