Wix Introduces AI Visual Design Platform Wixel
SaaS website builder Wix introduced Wixel, a standalone AI-powered visual design platform with image generation and editing capabilities. Like Wix’s website builder, Wixel provides free access to limited features and storage space, with the option to upgrade to the Pro Plan for more templates, design elements, and advanced capabilities.
Wixel is built to enable everyone to craft studio-grade quality visuals regardless of their design experience. Powered by OpenAI’s latest image generation model, among other advanced models, Wixel can act as an AI image and art generator, photo editor, and background remover.
Users can instruct it with natural-language prompts, adding details like the desired style, aesthetic, colors, and other elements. For example, a user may ask Wixel to generate an image of a “silver sports car parked in a lush field of wildflowers, under a dreamy sunset sky.” This level of personalization makes it suitable for creating high-quality, brand-cohesive visuals in a matter of minutes.
Additionally, users can upload their own images, crop, resize, or extend them, adjust the lighting and colors, apply visual effects and filters, and more. It’s particularly beneficial for product-based businesses.
“For example, a jewelry designer can snap a photo of their product, upload it to Wixel, instantly remove or place their product in a completely different setting and context, fine-tune contrast and saturation, and place it into a professionally designed template – all within minutes,” Wix explains in its official press release.
Moreover, Wixel features a collection of professionally designed templates for Instagram Stories, Facebook Posts, invitations, greeting cards, and other business and personal use cases. In the future, Wix plans to add more advanced capabilities, like video and story creation.
“This version is just the beginning, and I am excited to explore the limitless creative possibilities that Wixel will unlock as we continue to innovate and refine our platform,” Avishai Abrahami, Co-Founder and CEO of Wix, said in the press release.
Wixel can be accessed through new or existing Wix accounts. However, there isn’t a direct integration between the two platforms, meaning users can’t directly upload designs generated on Wixel to their Wix website or vice versa.
Wix is increasingly leveraging generative AI to enhance its platform. Recently, the company introduced Astro, its first-ever AI agent designed to streamline business operations and boost productivity.
Another recent AI upgrade includes an adaptive content app that personalizes site content based on visitor characteristics and pre-defined instructions.
