DeepX: Automating Personalization in Recruiting and Sales Outreach

Predrag Vlatkovic Written by:
Marcel Pfenning, Founder of DeepX, shares the unexpected story behind how a cold outreach video from HubSpot inspired the creation of one of Germany’s most innovative personalized video platforms. In this Website Planet interview, he explains how DeepX streamlines recruiting and sales outreach by automating high-impact, human-feeling video messages at scale.

How and when was DeepX founded, and with what goals in mind?

That’s actually a funny story. We were approached by HubSpot roughly five or six years ago. They were using Loom and recorded a video showing our website at the time, which belonged to a training consultancy company.

One of their SDRs was reviewing our digital setup in the video and asked if we, as a company working with customer data, had structured and automated it well, with KPIs ready to go. He mentioned that if we weren’t using a CRM yet, he’d be happy to introduce himself and learn more about us. The video had the screen recording on one side and a little Loom bubble with his face on the other. It was personal, authentic, and full of character. We really liked that approach.

So we copied it for our own outreach. We started recording Loom videos ourselves to approach B2B companies and sell them our services. But as you can imagine, recording so many videos manually takes a lot of time. Eventually, we asked ourselves why we studied so hard back in the day if now all we were doing was recording videos every day.

That led us to the idea: what if we could record a video once, have software analyze the structure—like when the speaker moves, when a website is scrolled, when it switches from website A to B to C—and use that as a kind of blueprint? Then, the software could generate hundreds or thousands of videos that follow the exact same structure, but with different websites and LinkedIn profiles in the background.

The result is that each recipient feels like we personally went through their website or LinkedIn profile. It creates a highly personalized experience without needing to record individual videos. This significantly boosts reply rates and enhances employer branding, all while conveying personality and emotion through tone of voice, expressions, and more. That’s the power of video, and that’s how DeepX was born. With DeepX, you are now able to include a highly personalized, really individual approach that allows the candidate to really connect with you on a personal level without taking the time to record hundreds or thousands of videos.

How does your platform actually work and what is the process between starting a recruiting campaign and getting desired results like?

As I was saying, it starts with creating a list—maybe a client list using LinkedIn Sales Navigator or a candidate list via LinkedIn Recruiter. You could also use a CSV file with all your prospect or candidate data.

You can upload that list into DeepX. For LinkedIn campaigns, we have browser extensions that automate a lot of the process. For email outreach, you can simply upload a CSV and download results later.

Once the list is uploaded, the platform takes your one recorded video and personalizes it for each contact. The video’s structure remains the same, but the background elements—like LinkedIn profiles or websites—change dynamically. Each person receives a video that feels tailor-made, even though it was all created from a single recording.

What is the software behind your work?

DeepX is the software, and we developed it ourselves. It’s fully bootstrapped and currently the leading software in Germany for personalized video approaches used in first interactions—whether for sales, recruiting, after-sales, or retention marketing. It can be used across all these different use cases. At least for LinkedIn, it’s currently the only one in Germany that can do what we do.

What pricing plans do you offer?

We offer three pricing tiers: Basic, Growth, and Professional. It starts with a free trial phase that lasts two to three weeks. The Basic plan is €49 per month, Growth is €149, and Professional is €299.

With the Growth and Professional plans, you’re provided with all the engagement data—who clicked on your video, how long they watched, how they interacted with the elements you included after the video. You can have a Calendly link pop up, redirect to your LinkedIn profile or a public website, offer a download like a PDF—whatever fits your use case.

The software allows you to analyze that data as well. So, if you’re planning future campaigns, you can look back and see which ones performed best, which salespeople or recruiters were most effective, and which prospect groups responded best. There are no restrictions on the number of videos you can send—it’s unlimited.

What can we expect from the company going forward?

Until now, we’ve mainly focused on the German-speaking market—Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. But the software is already available in English, so we’re now working on internationalizing DeepX, starting with Europe and expanding to markets like the U.S. and Asia. We’ve seen strong interest, especially from countries like India, based on our LinkedIn traffic.

We initially started DeepX as a recruiting tool, focused on candidate research, outreach, and active sourcing for large recruitment firms. However, as of January 1st, we’ve also added a sales focus, allowing companies to use DeepX for first-touch sales interactions. That’s a growing area for us, especially as the recruiting market is currently under pressure.

Is there anything else about your work that you’d like to share that we haven’t covered?

I think we’ve covered most of it, but it might be interesting to mention that over 350,000 videos have already been sent using DeepX in the past two years. That gives us a strong track record. We also help clients with brainstorming around messaging, scripting, structuring, and creative use cases for video. It’s not just about pitching—it can also be used for webinar invites, book promotions, or other campaigns.

For example, if a company sells a pair of shoes to someone, that customer can later be approached with a personalized video suggesting matching socks. So, there’s a lot of creative potential beyond just the initial outreach.
