What inspired the creation of Comet, and what gap in the market were you aiming to fill?
Comet was born from a simple observation: companies were struggling to quickly find qualified tech talent, while experienced independent experts lacked visibility and access to the right opportunities. Traditional recruitment agencies were often too slow or opaque, and existing freelance platforms didn’t always guarantee the level of quality required for strategic projects. At the same time, the privileged position long held by traditional IT consulting firms is increasingly being challenged. The emergence of freelance platforms is a real threat to their legacy time-based staffing model. While the first wave of marketplaces was criticized for being purely transactional or lacking transparency, a new generation of startups — including Comet — is radically transforming the IT market. Our mission is clear: to build a human, tech-enabled, and transparent alternative that empowers independent experts and makes it easier for companies to access top-tier talent. Transparency with clients, long-term relationship building, and a focus on expert well-being have become new standards that many traditional players failed to anticipate. Worse, they’ve missed the technological shift that now allows platforms like ours to continuously improve performance through a smart combination of algorithms and human support. Just as tech giants have attracted the best developers by offering exceptional work environments, we believe that the players who provide independent experts with the best possible working conditions will win the war for talent. How has Comet evolved since its founding, and what have been some of your key milestones?
Since our launch, Comet has grown from a small startup into one of the leading platforms for tech independent experts in France. Key milestones include several rounds of funding, the development of a selective community of 50,000 vetted independent experts, expansion into new markets — including support functions — and the creation of our proprietary matching algorithm. Over time, we’ve refined our model to combine speed and quality, and we’ve supported major companies in sectors such as banking, healthcare, and e-commerce. In 2025, we raised an additional €10 million to accelerate our growth, and established a new supervisory board composed of high-profile members from the tech and business world. This strategic governance structure is designed to support Comet’s next phase of expansion and solidify our leadership in the freelance tech market. How does Comet match tech freelancers with companies? What is the process like for both sides?
At Comet, we’ve designed a matching process that combines smart technology with high-touch human support to ensure speed, quality, and alignment. Our community of 50,000 consultants — all rigorously selected and vetted by our team of expert talent agents — is made up of exceptional professionals who have chosen independence to practice their craft with both freedom and excellence. Through our platform, they gain access to high-impact, strategic, and intellectually stimulating projects within dynamic and innovative companies. For each assignment, we provide end-to-end support — from the initial brief to project closure — to ensure a seamless and successful collaboration. On the company side, our dedicated teams assist throughout the entire journey: defining needs, identifying and selecting the right experts, supporting onboarding, and ensuring continuous follow-up and performance tracking. On the expert side, we offer the same level of attention and care: active listening, regular check-ins, strategic guidance, and fast, human responses to any challenges they may face. This dual, tailored support model is at the heart of Comet’s commitment: creating the ideal conditions for fluid, human-centered, and high-performance collaborations — built on trust, transparency, and excellence. What emerging trends are you seeing in the freelance and remote work space?
We’re seeing several strong trends:- The rise of hybrid work and distributed teams as the norm.
- A growing demand for project-based work, especially in areas like AI, cybersecurity, and data science.
- More professionals choosing freelancing as a long-term career path rather than a stopgap.
- Increased focus on freelancer well-being and community, not just transactions.
- Companies starting to build blended teams of full-time employees and freelancers for agility.
How much does AI affect the freelance market?
AI is having a dual impact. On one hand, it’s creating new demand for freelance expertise — especially in machine learning, data engineering, prompt engineering, and AI product design. On the other hand, some tasks that were previously outsourced (e.g., basic coding, content generation) are now being automated or assisted by AI. That said, AI is still far from replacing expert human freelancers. In fact, many clients now seek freelancers who can help them leverage AI tools to improve productivity or build AI-based solutions. As for Comet, I believe it is a great opportunity for growth and development. Is there anything else about your work that you’d like to share that we haven’t covered?
At Comet, we’re driven by a clear conviction: freelancing is not just a trend — it’s a fundamental shift in how people want to work, and how companies access critical expertise. We’re not simply building a platform; we’re building a long-term ecosystem that empowers independent experts to thrive, with access to high-value missions, continuous support, community, and tools designed for their success. Comet shines a light on the potential of the most brilliant independent experts by giving them access to strategic opportunities within leading companies, where their expertise and know-how make a real, decisive, and lasting impact. We believe the future belongs to those who choose excellence, autonomy, and purpose.
