Walls.io is a solution that helps you engage your audience with social media content that increases brand awareness at events, on displays, and on your website. This week, we had the opportunity to speak with Michael Kamleitner, the CEO of Walls.io.
Please describe the story behind the company: What sparked the idea, and how has it evolved so far?
Walls.io’s original inception happened almost 10 years ago as a hackathon project for a friend’s birthday party at the famous (but sadly now closed) Vienna-based co-working space Sektor5. The idea was to display all the buzz around the party from various social media channels on a large video projection. In just a few days, we built an MVP that supported Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, and Gowalla (a location-based service later acquired and shut down by FB). We got great feedback for our first “social media wall”, and pretty soon we got requests from companies who wanted to run a similar social media display at their events, trade shows, conferences. After running these “bespoke” projects for a while, we decided to “productize” the idea, and Walls.io was born.
What is the mission of Walls.io?
In a world where humans use digital media to express their beliefs, experiences, and emotions, successful brands have to tap into that content to communicate in an authentic, human way. Our mission is to build software that empowers brands to achieve their goals with enriched user-generated content.
What services do you offer?
To achieve our mission, we’re offering a social media content aggregator that allows businesses and brands of all kinds to collect, curate, and display user-generated content. We’re collecting posts, videos, and photos from 13 different platforms around hashtags, events, topics, or brands. The resulting content feed can either be displayed on all types of screens and digital signage solutions, or embedded into any website or mobile apps using our widget. Walls.io is run as a typical, cloud-based B2B software-as-a-service solution. We are a “freemium” service, so anyone can sign-up for free social wall too!
What separates you from other similar websites/companies?
With more than 10 years of experience in the social media marketing industry, our leadership and engineering team is uniquely positioned to adapt and integrate our platform in the ever-changing world of social media. Our product is extremely easy-to-use (“Set up your social wall in 5minutes” is our proven slogan), stable, scalable, and available in an attractive & flexible pricing model. We offer various subscription plans that suit the needs of brands, multinational enterprises, agencies all alike. Our one-time event passes open our service up to customers who don’t feel ready yet to commit long-term.
Since 2020, we are seeing a surge in demand coming from companies running virtual events. Social media software, and our solution, enrichen virtual (and real) events in a significant way. By partnering with over a dozen event platforms, we’ve been able to increase our footprint significantly.
Who are your typical customers, and what do you think is the main challenge that your product solves for them?
Our software is currently used by thousands of businesses all around the world, including international brands such as Google, Adobe, Amazon, Ferrari, Tomorrowland, Cisco, Dell, ICANN, BMW and many more. Check out our blog for some show-cases!

What are the plans for Walls.io for the near future?
In 2020, we were witness to a massive change in the event industry due to COVID-19. Walls.io was in a great position to help businesses move from real-life to virtual events, and we’re excited to continue and grow our position in this area. 2021 will be an exciting year too, seeing how we are getting back to hybrid or real-life formats again. But of course, it’s not just about events – our roadmap is ambitious and we are looking forward to bringing even more value to marketers through new features, supported platforms, and more!
