Let’s introduce Chrometa to our audience. What is it and how does it work?Chrometa is a passive time tracker: It’s an application that records every document you work on, every website you visit, every email you work on and every application you use on your Mac or PC, and for how long. It is similar to your Chrome or Firefox browsing history, but extended to all applications and programs on your computer and not just to your internet activity.
How did it all start, and what are your achievements to this day?Back in 2007, a friend who was also a lawyer, was facing the stopwatch problem for his timekeeping: Oftentimes, you forget to start or stop the stopwatch and end up with an inaccurate timesheet. He suggested creating an app that would automatically record your work and build a timesheet from the logs. By 2008, Chrometa for Windows was on the market, followed by its Mac version in 2010, and in 2011 we moved to the cloud. Since then, we extended the product to include passive time tracking, automated screenshots, automatic time allocation and over 50 integrations.
How does your mission differ from the other companies in your niche?Early on, we recognized that time tracking is a tedious and boring task, regardless of the solution. So we took a different approach to the user experience: The LESS time you spend in Chrometa, the BETTER. By having an application running in the background, collecting data, allocating to clients and projects and then exporting to third party systems, we offer a frictionless experience to our users, who just need to login to their usual accounting system or practice management app and the data – processed by Chrometa – is there.
Who are your typical clients and what problems do they have when they come to you?About 60% of our clients are in the legal industry, 20% in accounting and 20% of freelancers. The number one problem they have is being able to account for all the billable hours, especially when the work happened a few weeks back.
