Like many AI writing tools, Writesonic is relatively new, but it certainly packs a punch with its capabilities. The platform offers a plethora of useful features, including AI-generated templates for articles, blogs, ads, and social media posts, as well as a unique AI image generator, Photosonic.

These features promise to streamline content creation and cater to a wide range of needs, making it a valuable asset for individuals and businesses alike. But does it actually live up to the hype?

Writesonic excels in many areas, but it’s essential to temper expectations. Similar to other AI tools, it’s not a perfect replacement for human creativity and intuition. When trying it out, I found Writesonic was most useful for short-form content like social media posts, product descriptions, and ad copy.

While it performs genuinely well, don’t expect it to completely take over all your content creation work overnight. It can work with longer form content, but I found that you will still need to review and refine the output to ensure it aligns perfectly with your messaging.

Writesonic Offers Plenty of Features To Get The Job Done

At first glance, what stands out to me about Writesonic is its robust feature set, which provides immense value. The platform includes a vast library of templates and brand voice creator that ensures quick content creation and a consistent voice across various formats. Additionally, it offers a chat feature and an AI image generator, though these aren’t as advanced as similar programs out there.

Variety of Templates

I was incredibly impressed by the sheer variety of templates Writesonic offers. With well over 100 different templates, you’re bound to find the right type for your content. From blog articles and landing pages to TikTok video scripts and Amazon product descriptions, Writesonic makes these available to you.

Best of all, almost all of the templates are available in over 25 languages. This is incredibly helpful if you’re writing for a bilingual community and need to craft content, even if you don’t speak that particular language. While you’ll still want to have someone who speaks the language proofread your work, it’s a great inclusivity tool that can really make your job easier.

Chatsonic Chatbot

Another great feature that Writesonic offers is Chatsonic. Unlike templates, the Chatsonic chatbot is much more of a free-form content generator. You’re able to input unique prompts, without being limited by the parameters set by the templates. This makes it easier to generate and refine ideas and content in real time – and it also makes it feel more natural.

Compared to AI tools like ChatGPT-3.5, which only has information as recent as 2021, Chatsonic allows you to use the latest Google data so you can ensure your content is up to date.

You can ask Chatsonic questions by using written and verbal prompts, create digital artwork, and translate text into another language, among other things. Chatsonic has a cool feature where you can decide what personality you want the bot to have. Options include general AI, travel guide, poet, accountant, stand-up comedian, and more.

Create a Unique Brand Voice

In my opinion, one of Writesonic’s best features is its Brand Voice creator. The Unlimited plan provides you with three distinct brand voices with the option to upgrade for unlimited access on the Business plan. To get started, you can either insert a link from your existing site, copy some text into the generator, or upload a file.

Then, Writesonic will scrape the site or text and automatically summarize what it thinks is the brand voice. You’ll then be able to modify that to fit your specific needs. It’s an especially valuable resource if you’re an agency or freelancer who often handles diverse projects for your clients and needs to use their unique brand voice.

AI Image Generator

Writesonic’s AI image tool, Photosonic, can be a useful tool in a pinch – especially if you’re already using Writesonic’s other features. Each image generation will only cost you 200 premium words. Despite its integration with Stable Diffusion or DALL-E, I found that the images generated by Photosonic were generally not on par with the quality offered by specialized AI image generators.

I tried several prompts and each time, the results were basic and not really what I was looking for. There is also an option to “enhance prompt,” where Writesonic will take your idea and add more detail. But when I tried that, I ended up with images that weren’t at all related to my original idea.

If you just need a generic image to add to a blog post or social post, Photosonic will definitely deliver. Compared to other AI writing tools, I love that it’s built right in and I don’t have to juggle multiple tools to create original content. However, if you are looking to create complex AI images, Writesonic isn’t quite there yet.

Privacy & Security

When it comes to privacy and security, I found Writesonic to be lacking. While the site offers some general reassurances about data security and claims to conduct third-party audits to ensure compliance, it was vague and basic information. The site does mention that it is not PCI or HIPAA compliant, so you should take care not to enter sensitive information into the software.

As a user, I believe more transparency in this area would go a long way in building trust and confidence in the platform. Nevertheless, I still appreciate the effort it makes to address security concerns. But with most AI writing software, I would caution against providing Writesonic with intellectual property or trade secrets.

Writesonic Offers a Clean Interface That Makes It Fun to Use

There are so many badly designed AI tools that are frustrating to use and not at all intuitive. Luckily, Writesonic is not one of them. I was pleasantly surprised at just how easy it is to navigate this software. The design is clean, visually appealing, and I never struggled to find exactly what I needed.

Getting Started With Writesonic

Signing up with Writesonic is incredibly simple. You can sign up using an existing Gmail account, AppleID, or via email. Unlike other AI writing platforms, I appreciated that I wasn’t required to enter payment details for my free trial period.

Once my account was set up, I was able to get started right away. The interface is beginner-friendly, with clearly labeled buttons, responsive screen, and a learning help center built directly into the dashboard.

Streamlined Interface That’s Easy to Navigate

I really enjoy just how simple and clean Writesonic’s interface is. There is a simple navigation menu on the left-hand side that makes it easy to access a variety of features, including Chatsonic, Photosonic, the template library, and your pre-saved brand voices.

Within the template library, you can scroll through different options sorted by category, or use the search bar to find exactly what you need. Each template has a brief description so you’ll be able to quickly scan and find the one you need.

Generating Content From Existing Templates

No matter what type of content you’re creating, the template layouts all look similar for consistency. When you open a template, you’ll be prompted to input some basic information about the type of content you need on the left-hand side of the screen.

You’ll generally need to either add reference text from similar articles (up to five), upload documents to be scanned, or add a thorough description of what you need in the additional information field. You’ll only be able to produce long-form articles one generation at a time, but for short form content like Instagram captions, you’ll get several options from a single prompt.

I really appreciate the little details Writesonic added to the content. For social media captions, this included hashtags and emojis for more personality. In the article I produced, it even added a royalty-free image.

Chatsonic Mobile App Only Available on Android

Writesonic’s mobile app, Chatsonic, is much more limited than the comprehensive features offered in the browser version. You won’t be able to use the brand voice or templates feature, but it’s still useful if you need to generate content on the go.

Like the browser version, the mobile app’s interface is uncluttered and easy to navigate. You’ll be able to interact with Chatsonic via text or voice prompts, much like you would with a virtual assistant. While you won’t be able to create long-form content, you’ll still be able to choose a “persona” and generate short-form content that you can download, share, or copy.

Overall, it seems like it’s a nice-to-have option, but it’s definitely not the best tool Writesonic offers.

Writesonic Creates Content Quickly and Within The Prompt Parameters

I decided to see how well Writesonic could produce a mission statement for a fictitious non-profit group: Wildlife Sanctuary Project (WSP). I tested this using both a pre-existing template and Chatsonic for more flexibility. Overall, the results were good, but far from perfect.

I will note that I do think that Writesonic thrives in the short form content space. Its long-form templates definitely crafted something that was usable, but would require a decent amount of editing and fact-checking to get it ready for publishing. However, I’ve found that to be the case across many AI generators, not just Writesonic.

Great Readability, but Don’t Expect Complexity

I tried two ways to craft a mission statement. First, I used the template “Company Mission” with a brief description of the fictitious non-profit. While Writesonic produced a basic mission statement, it wasn’t as long or detailed as I needed, and I was limited on the amount of information I could feed the prompt to get it to write what I wanted.

After that, I tried the same prompt using Chatsonic. Chatsonic provided a lot more flexibility and allowed me to give detailed instructions. For both the template and chatbot versions, Writesonic crafted the entirety of the content (around 400 words) within seconds. The mission statement that Chatsonic wrote for me was readable and mostly aligned with the prompt, though it didn’t write 2 paragraphs as asked.

Before refining the content, I wanted to see if it was original. I copied and pasted the text into a plagiarism detector and was pleased to see that it only flagged two basic phrases, both of which are generic enough that no one would think it’s actually plagiarized. (For reference, one of the phrases flagged was “join us in our mission to protect and preserve.”)

When I went to refine the content, Chatsonic often struggled to understand what I wanted. I asked if it could combine two sections and it ended up rewriting the entire prompt. I then asked it to revert to the original and it could not do that.

Through a lot of back and forth, I was finally able to get something that worked for me, but I would still need to do some edits and more specifics if I wanted to use it for my fictitious organization. As a writer, I think Writesonic is a great tool, but don’t expect it to crank out perfect content from the get-go – you’ll need to refine and polish the content to get the best results.

Writesonic’s pricing model revolves around providing flexible options for you, which includes a free plan.  but unfortunately there are no free plans. Instead, Writesonic offers a free trial that grants access to all features of Writesonic and Chatsonic, enabling you to explore the platform’s capabilities before making a commitment.

If you decide to commit, Writesonic offers three main plans that are ideal for individuals or small teams. You can choose to pay monthly or save 20% by signing up for an annual plan. The Teams plan is ideal for small teams under 10 users, and at $30/month per-user pricing, it offers the whole she-bang, including unlimited Chatsonic generations, templates, and brand voices. The lower-tier plans Chatsonic and Individual are ideal for freelancers or solo marketers.

Beyond these plans, Writesonic can also design a plan suitable for your agency’s needs, but you’ll need to contact the sales team for the specifics. No matter which plan you choose, you can get a discount if you are a student or non-profit, but you’ll have to contact sales to redeem the discount.

Compared to other AI writing tools, Writesonic is more affordable than many others, but isn’t the cheapest. However, I think that Writesonic finds the perfect balance between price and features. In particular, Writesonic’s Individual plan is one of the best deals I’ve currently found on the market. Other plans at similar price points have more limited features, whereas Writesonic’s is truly unlimited.

Great Online Resources, but Live Chat Is Not Available

Writesonic claims to provide 24/7 support through several channels, but I struggled to get in touch with the team several times. On the site, it claims to have 24/7 chat support, but every time I tried the chat, I was redirected to enter my email and query instead.

On the contact form, I asked about using both GPT 3.5 and GPT 4.0 on the Business plan. I wanted to know how that affected pricing and if it was possible to use a mix of these tools to save money. Even though it was past 10:00 pm on a weekend, I received a response within half an hour, which I appreciated.

Unfortunately, the reply I received answered my question, but didn’t provide much help beyond that. The customer service representative confirmed that it was possible to use a mix of both GPT 3.5 and GPT 4.0, but didn’t answer how that would affect pricing and didn’t offer any guidance on how to switch between the two, which would’ve been helpful.

Luckily, there is also an extensive online knowledge base for further help. After some scouring, I did find out how to switch between GPT 3.5 and GPT 4.0, even without guidance from the support team.

There is also an AI chatbot. I’ve tried a lot of AI chatbots and can honestly say this one is one of the best I’ve used. I asked a complex question and it provided me with the exact answer I was looking for – in less than a second. Most AI chatbots only have a few pre-programmed responses and get confused when you go off script, so it was great to see one that can handle more complexity.
