10 Best DreamHost Alternatives for Reliable Performance in 2025

DreamHost claims to give you everything you need to host a WordPress website, but I tested it over several months and found some major issues. Let’s start with the fact that, DreamHost promises 100% uptime, but its actual uptime records (and customer reviews) tell a different story.

Personally, I was disappointed with DreamHost’s performance, not only in terms of uptime, but also when it came to page loading speed. I tried to get in touch with customer support to resolve some of these issues, but most of the time, an agent was not available. I know DreamHost is reasonably popular, but that’s no excuse for poor support.

Perhaps you’re dealing with some of the same issues as a DreamHost client, or maybe you’re considering a DreamHost plan right now. Either way, you should check out the hosts on my list before you make any decisions.

I’ve tested dozens of options to come up with these reliable alternatives to DreamHost. What they all have in common is outstanding performance and dependable customer support. Hostinger, however, stands out above the rest for its superior performance, managed WordPress plans, and premium plan features – all offered at incredible budget prices.

Short on Time? These Are the Best Alternatives to DreamHost in 2025:

  1. Hostinger – Shared hosting that’s both cheaper and better performing than DreamHost.
  2. IONOS – Affordable shared hosting with more resources for larger projects than DreamHost.
  3. InterServer – Unlimited shared plan with flexible month-to-month pricing that’s more scalable than DreamHost’s budget plans.

What We Look For in the Best Alternatives to DreamHost

I tested DreamHost to get an idea of the key areas where it falls short. I made these issues my priority:
  • Outstanding performance. It’s nearly impossible for a host to offer 100% uptime, but I looked for providers that come very close. I also wanted more in terms of loading speed, so I only included hosts that were actually faster than DreamHost.
  • Reliable customer support. DreamHost’s support agents are knowledgeable, but good luck getting a reply through live chat. With a few exceptions, all of the hosts on my list have more prompt and effective support.
  • Data centers around the world. DreamHost has just three data centers, two based in the US and one in the Netherlands. Most alternatives on my list offer more locations, allowing you to bring your website closer to your target audience.
  • Managed WordPress plans. In case you’re moving away from one of DreamHost’s WordPress plans, I’ve looked for hosts that give you the same (or an even better) level of managed support.
  • Pricing. Following my experience with DreamHost, I honestly believe that it charges more money than it’s worth. I’ve only included hosts that strike a better balance between cost, performance, and features.

Hostinger performance features
If you want top-notch performance at top-notch prices, Hostinger is the host for you
While both DreamHost and Hostinger offer deep discounts for longer contract terms, Hostinger offers more for your money than DreamHost. Hostinger’s entry-level plan may not offer the unlimited SSD storage that DreamHost’s plan does, but it includes free features like a CDN and malware scanner. In contrast, DreamHost offers these as paid add-ons.

But WordPress plans are where Hostinger truly outshines DreamHost. With the Premium plan, you’ll get enough storage space and bandwidth for a personal or small business site, in addition to automatic WordPress updates and built-in performance optimizations. Unfortunately, DreamHost has removed some features from its shared WordPress plans since it rolled out its (much more expensive) DreamPress managed hosting plans.

Granted, DreamPress plans run on cloud hosting. If you want a comparable Hostinger plan, try its entry-level cloud plan for $7.99/month. Not only is it cheaper, but you’ll get more storage, more SSL certificates, a dedicated IP address, and more. You’ll get the most savings if you sign up for a 4-year plan. If that’s too much commitment, you can take advantage of Hostinger’s 30-day money-back guarantee before signing up.

A free domain name is included with some hosting plans from Hostinger

Features

  • User-friendly control panel. Hostinger’s hPanel is extremely easy to navigate. There are built-in performance and security tools, as well as a one-click installer for dozens of CMSs. By comparison, DreamHost has a one-click installer for WordPress, and that’s about it.
  • LiteSpeed web server. Unlike DreamHost, Hostinger replaced its Apache servers with newer LiteSpeed technology. Expect better loading speeds and more stability during periods of heavy traffic.
  • Built-in caching. Regardless of the plan you choose, LiteSpeed caching is preconfigured for you. The LiteSpeed Cache for WordPress (LSCWP) plugin is integrated into the dashboard, along with other speed-enhancing tools like object cache. You can toggle these features on and off at any time.
  • Data centers on four continents. Hostinger has 12 data centers strategically positioned to serve most regions around the world. These include the US, Brazil, several European locations, Singapore, and Indonesia.

2. IONOS: Affordable DreamHost Alternative for Larger Websites

IONOS hosting features
I’m not sure I “love” IONOS’ managed WordPress features, but they did impress me
IONOS stands out for its affordable shared hosting plans with scalable resources. There are four shared hosting plans, with the Plus plan currently being the best value at $1.00/month. Not only is it cheaper than DreamHost, but it also includes unlimited websites, databases, storage, and bandwidth. You’ll also receive daily backups, a free domain for a year, and professional email service.

What’s more (and pretty rare), IONOS offers on-demand resources for these shared hosting plans. For a small additional fee, you can add extra RAM and memory for better performance if your site experiences spikes in traffic. You can continue at this level or scale back down to your current plan resources if you no longer need the boost.

When it comes to customer support, IONOS offers something a bit unique. Its personal consultant service means you’ll partner with one dedicated support agent. You’ll have someone who gets to know you and your website, instead of just the “next available agent” whenever you need assistance. However, when I tested support, I found it more unresponsive than I would have liked.

Features

  • Georedundant servers. While DreamHost typically stores your data in one location, IONOS will make a copy of your site and store it in another data center location. This ensures that if something happens to your primary data center, you won’t lose your website.
  • Site security. DreamHost’s security is practically non-existent unless you pay extra. In contrast, IONOS offers a free malware scanner, DDoS protection, and a WildCard SSL certificate on all its plans to provide you with enhanced site security.
  • Optimized CPU and MEM resources. Depending on your plan, your site can host from 100 to 500 visitors per minute with optimized performance of your PHP and RAM.
  • IONOS mobile app. Use your smartphone or tablet to check your site’s performance, manage your domains, update user settings, contact your personal consultant, pay an invoice, and more.

InterServer web hosting plan features with unlimited storage, bandwidth, websites, and email
InterServer has a transparent approach to hosting, offering a fair price with no hidden fees
InterServer keeps things simple with a single Standard shared hosting plan that includes unlimited… everything. You can host as many websites as you want (each with its own domain, of course), and there’s no cap on storage space, bandwidth, or email.

InterServer’s plan costs less than DreamHost’s shared plans when you pay for a year in advance. And there is one major difference: InterServer’s renewal fee is, well, nothing extra. DreamHost will charge you a much higher rate if you renew your plan.

Unfortunately, InterServer’s live chat support is pretty much as useless as DreamHost’s counterpart, though I did have some luck with the ticket system. I guess you can’t have it all, right?

Features

  • Underloaded servers. InterServer uses only up to 50% of each server’s capacity. Even if another customer on the same server gets more traffic, you still have access to plenty of CPU and RAM, allowing your site to run reliably.
  • LiteSpeed web server. InterServer uses LiteSpeed technology to deliver your website to visitors quickly. And, LiteSpeed caching is built into the dashboard, so it only takes a couple of clicks to speed up loading time for your site’s images and code.
  • “Inter-Proxy” proprietary caching. Including the LiteSpeed caching mentioned above, InterServer offers even more hardware and software caching technology, from LSI MegaRaid caching on its SSD drives to packet-level caching using Google’s QUIC.
  • Hack-fix guarantee. Although InterServer uses data from thousands of servers to prevent security breaches, if your website is ever compromised, the tech team will clean it up for you.

best dreamhost alternatives554 4
Living up to its promises of speed and stability, HostArmada’s cloud hosting outshines DreamHost
HostArmada is a solid choice over DreamHost for managed WordPress hosting. For starters, our tests proved that HostArmada was faster and more reliable than DreamHost and provides managed WordPress services for less money.

HostArmada’s entry-level Start Dock plan $2.49/month and more than enough for most small business web sites. You’ll have 15 GB of NVMe storage and enough bandwidth for about 30,000 visitors a month. Also included is a free SSL, free domain for a year, unlimited email accounts, and a user-friendly dashboard. The only drawback is that you’ll want to upgrade to the Speed Reaper plan to get access to LiteSpeed servers.

One of HostArmada’s best features is its practice of keeping client density low on its servers. You’re still sharing a server, but there are fewer clients on the server. Fewer users per server means faster speeds and better performance for your site. DreamHost doesn’t offer this low density policy.

Features

  • Comprehensive security features. HostArmada uses multiple firewall layers and AI-powered threat detection to defend against malware, DDoS, and other online attacks.
  • Free website optimization service. HostArmada offers on-demand optimization help, including dynamic caching, to boost performance — no advanced technical knowledge needed.
  • Cloud SSD technology for excellent uptime. HostArmada uses cloud-powered shared hosting servers, nearly eliminating downtime and providing reliable service to your site. In our tests, it returned a 99.98% uptime.
  • Daily backups with extended retention. Most hosts offer daily or weekly backups. HostArmada keeps those backups for 7 to 21 days, depending on your plan, allowing you to restore your site’s data to earlier versions should an issue arise.

DreamHost autoscaling features
Nexcess’ autoscaling feature makes it an ideal host for small to large businesses
Nexcess offers a strong mix of performance, security, and managed support, making it a solid cloud-based option for high-traffic WordPress and WooCommerce sites. Your Nexcess plan will include many more WordPress “goodies” than DreamHost could “dream” up.

WordPress plans offer automatic core and plugin updates, daily backups, and 1-click staging. Perhaps one of the most useful features is Visual Compare. This produces before and after snapshots of your site whenever plugin updates are completed. You can tell at a glance if an update will “break” something on your site and repair the issue.

While Nexcess plans cost more than DreamHost’s plans by a considerable margin, you get a great deal more for the money. The entry-level Spark plan includes 2 TB of bandwidth and free email, SSL, and CDN. All plans can instantly autoscale (up to 24 hours per month for free), which means that if your site experiences an increase in traffic, Nexcess will automatically scale resources so your site visitors will never experience any downtime or service disruptions.

Features

  • WooCommerce testing. For e-commerce sites, Nexcess offers nightly automated testing that detects issues with payments, checkout processes, and login credentials, keeping your store running smoothly.
  • Plugin performance monitoring. Nexcess conducts daily tests to assess load times and page weight, automatically detecting performance changes when plugins are installed or updated.
  • Advanced security features. Keep your site safe from attacks with free tools like iThemes Security Pro. This offers two-factor authentication, malware scanning, and password management.
  • Image compression. Nexcess makes it incredibly easy to install free plugins like TinyPNG’s Compress JPEG and PNG Images to reduce image file sizes and speed up your site without compromising quality.
If you’re sure if Nexcess is right for your WordPress site, read our expert review.

6. Hosting.com (formerly A2 Hosting): Optimized High-Performance Hosting

A2 Hosting web hosting features
It might not actually make your website load 20 times faster, but A2 Hosting still outperform many other hosts
A2 Hosting is now Hosting.com. The information below is based on A2 Hosting’s former features, plans, and pricing. A new review for Hosting.com is coming soon.
A2 Hosting is all about loading speed. Of all the budget-priced hosts I’ve tested, A2 was consistently the fastest, and I was using its cheapest plan. It’s cheaper than DreamHost for shared hosting and offers WordPress-specific features you’ll typically only find in more expensive WordPress-specific plans.

A2 Hosting’s entry-level Ignite plan offers the A2 Optimized plugin for WordPress, in addition to unlimited bandwidth and email. Softaculous is also included in the deal, so you can install hundreds of apps (including WordPress) with a few clicks. No such tool is available with DreamHost.

If you can afford it, an upgrade to either the Turbo Velocity or Turbo Nitro plan means that your website will be hosted on one of A2’s high-performance servers. All plans are equipped with LiteSpeed web server, and these offer additional caching technology, and more CPU and RAM. Customer support could be better, but at least your website will load quickly.

Features

  • Optimized CMS installations. A2 has created its own one-click installations of WordPress and other popular CMSs. These come bundled with several pre-configured performance and security plugins.
  • Site staging. Instead of testing important website changes on the live site, you can use A2’s staging area to clone your website and safely test new features. If everything works, simply click to publish the new version.
  • Managed security. Reinforced DDoS protection, a dual firewall, and virus scanning are included in every plan. And the Patchman Enhanced Security tool identifies and updates outdated and potentially vulnerable software.
  • Anytime money-back guarantee. DreamHost’s 97-day money-back guarantee is impressive, but A2 Hosting does even better. You can ask for a prorated refund at any time during your contract to get money back for any unused service.
Check out our expert A2 Hosting review for more pros and cons.

Other Notable DreamHost Alternatives

7. GreenGeeks

GreekGeeks hosting security features
GreenGeeks offers eco-friendly hosting and user-friendly support
GreenGeeks is an eco-friendly host – it stands out for its practice of offsetting 300% of its energy consumption with renewable energy credits. This commitment to sustainability is in addition to features such as unmetered bandwidth and email accounts, daily backups, and free AI website builder. The entry-level plan only allows you to host one website with 25 GB of storage space, so I suggest opting for the mid-range plan if you plan to scale your site.

GreenGeeks also received one of our highest ratings for customer support, with timely responses and helpful agents. DreamHost’s support isn’t even in the same league as GreenGeeks. All this makes it a great alternative to DreamHost.

8. InMotion Hosting

InMotion Hosting web hosting features
InMotion Hosting may cost more than DreamHost, but it delivers more for the money
InMotion Hosting makes a fair alternative to DreamHost by providing a similar extended 90-day money-back guarantee. It also offers free website transfers, a free domain, email, and SSL, and US-based customer support 24/7. Entry-level plans are nothing to write home about, but if you’re looking for a long-term host, InMotion Hosting’s higher-tier plans offer better value for the money.

InMotion Hosting’s hosting plans are ideal for small businesses. In addition to free professional email, you can also get shared calendars, real-time collaboration tools, shared files access, and phone and video conferencing with screen sharing.

9. SiteGround

SiteGround AI builder example
SiteGround’s managed WordPress plans come with an AI website builder
SiteGround makes it easy to transfer your site over from DreamHost. Every plan includes free professional site and email migration to make it easy to get set up. SiteGround also offers AI content generation for your website content – create SEO-friendly content and take advantage of website stat tools to improve your site.

Why doesn’t SiteGround rank higher on our list? The only drawback is that its renewal prices can be high and if you want to scale to cloud hosting, be ready to start at $100.00/month.

10. Kinsta

Kinsta edge caching features and advantages
Kinsta’s advanced caching solutions ensure speedy loading times for your site
When it comes to managed WordPress hosting, Kinsta stands out with its use of Google Cloud’s fastest servers and choice of 37 data center locations. This ensures you get fast load times worldwide. Of course, this comes at a very premium price, so you’ll need to ensure your budget is equipped for the monthly cost, plus any add-ons you may need.

As a trade-off, Kinsta offers advanced security features, including SOC 2 compliance and ISO 27001, ISO 27017, and ISO 27018 certifications. Kinsta’s focus on cutting-edge technology and tough security makes it a great alternative if you need top-tier enterprise hosting.

Forget DreamHost: It’s Time to “Dream” Bigger

I didn’t become DreamHost’s biggest fan based on my experience. Fortunately, numerous superior alternatives are available. So, the real question is: which one of these hosts suits you best?

Hostinger is cheaper and faster than DreamHost, so it would be my first choice for a small-to-medium website. I wouldn’t use it for a high-traffic site, but for most everything else, I think it’s the top alternative.

If your site is on the larger side, IONOS may be the best alternative for you. Its scalability and affordability make it a great choice for bigger projects that DreamHost can’t handle.

Or, if you want unlimited resources at a low price, go with InterServer instead. Its shared hosting plan is reasonably priced, and the renewal fee is not significantly higher.

If you’ve decided to choose one of our suggested alternatives, check out our helpful guide on how to cancel your DreamHost account.
