Features and Ease of Use
SkySilk offers cloud servers with the following features:
- Manual backups
- Anywhere from 100 MB/s to 800 MB/s bandwidth
- Replicated SSD storage
- Up to unlimited transfer
SkySilk replicates the SSDs of customers. For some customers, its dual replicated SSD, while for others, it’s triple replicated SSD, and still some, triple replicated NVMe. This ensures that your data is secure and available even if a hardware failure occurs. If one was to happen, the system automatically serves your data from the other drives while copying it to an additional disk.
One feature that you might like is its VPS boost. If you are planning a marketing campaign or are expecting a spike in traffic at a certain time, Black Friday for example, you can use this feature to easily scale your machine for 24 hours (or more) and boost the performance of the vCPU and RAM for a fraction of the usual price.
Depending on the category you choose, manual backups will not be available for you. There are three categories and the first doesn’t offer this service. A few other features, including scheduled backups, scheduled snapshots, and manual snapshots are restricted, as well. While the top categories get these unlimited for free, the middle category gets some at a cost and the base one doesn’t get them at all.
For security, SkySilk provides brute force protection with Fail2Ban and mitigation for DDoS attacks. Its DDoS protection is for attacks up to 3 GB/s. Furthermore, all communications are encrypted and transmitted over SSL.
SkySilk supports a plethora of operating systems and web applications. Its supported OS includes CentOS, Ubuntu, OpenSuse, and Fedora. For applications, it supports WordPress, Magento, Ajenti, Odoo, PrestaShop, and more. SkySilk also supports NodeJS, MySQL, and VestaCP among others.
Pricing and Support
SkySilk offers low prices. There’s no free plan, but it does offer monthly hosting at affordable prices. Before checkout, you can choose your preferred OS, application, and server location, among other settings so that it sets it up for you in seconds.
You can pay with your credit/debit card. The vendor uses the Stripe processor and doesn’t offer refunds.
One perk from this provider is that it provides points (Skypoints), which can be converted into account credits and used to pay for the server. Customers can get these points from different things, including referring other customers and buying a plan themselves.
SkySilk provides tutorials and has a section filled with them. There’s also a community section, ticketing system, and email options. I opened a ticket and got a reply not long after.
