  5. 10 Best PHP Hosting Services (With Developer Support) in 2025

10 Best PHP Hosting Services (With Developer Support) in 2025

It’s not hard to find a web host that supports PHP. What is hard, however, is finding a high-quality host that offers you all the developer tools you need to securely manage your PHP applications. You’ll also want a host that provides support for the latest PHP versions and allows you to switch between versions when necessary.

I researched and tested dozens of services to find the best PHP hosting providers for all kinds of users, from hobbyist developers to agencies managing client applications. Besides looking at a diverse range of PHP tools, I’ve also prioritized performance, security, and support for PHP-based applications.

Overall, it’s tough to compete with Hostinger’s affordable, feature-packed, and easy-to-manage PHP hosting. Still, each of these hosts on my list offers a quality service that will serve a wide range of different needs.

Short on Time? These Are The Best PHP Hosting Services in 2025

  1. Hostinger Affordable and fast PHP hosting with high-performance NVMe storage.
  2. IONOS Budget-friendly hosting with extended PHP support for older versions.
  3. SiteGround Proprietary management panel perfect for developers looking for easy PHP management.

What We Look For in the Best PHP Hosting Services

In my list, I’ve included fast and reliable web hosts with these extra features:
  • Multiple PHP versions. I’ve looked for hosts that let you choose your own PHP version for each website or application. While some hosts don’t support deprecated versions of PHP, the hosts on my list will let you choose any currently maintained version.
  • PHP updates. I’ve only included providers that offer PHP 8+, with bonus points given to those that support the current version (8.4 at the time of writing). You’ll still have the option to use an older version until you’re ready to switch.
  • PHP-based applications. I’ve selected hosts that support popular PHP-dependent CMSs like WordPress, Drupal, and Joomla. In addition to one-click installers, some providers on my list also offer automatic updates for these applications.
  • Developer tools. Every option on this list offers developer tools when you sign up for a PHP hosting package. You’ll get features like Git integration, SSH access, and access to the root directory in some cases.
  • Fair pricing. PHP is a free, open-source scripting language, so PHP hosting should be affordable. There’s no room on my list for sneaky hosts that charge extra for basic features like PHP updates.

What is PHP hosting and why do I need it?

PHP hosting is a type of web hosting service that supports websites and apps that use the PHP programming language. PHP code allows HTML pages to communicate with a database to show dynamic content, like an ever-changing list of the latest blog posts in WordPress.

Almost all self-respecting hosts are PHP compatible because PHP powers the most popular CMSs across the web. But in our case, PHP hosting is more than that – it should give you a high degree of control over your PHP configurations and a set of well-rounded features to support your applications.

1. Hostinger: Cheap, Fast, and Reliable PHP Hosting

Hostinger PHP hosting features
All Hostinger plans support PHP, so you don’t need an expensive dedicated plan
Hostinger is one of the most affordable PHP hosting providers on the market, with shared hosting starting at $2.99/month. But that doesn’t mean it skimps on features. Its shared hosting, VPS, and cloud hosting all support the latest versions of PHP (8+), and Hostinger makes it easy to switch between versions using its proprietary control panel. This is great if you’d rather wait for a more stable PHP release before making the upgrade.

Hostinger also happens to be one of the fastest hosts on this list for PHP hosting. It offers NVMe SSD on the Business plan and above, giving you faster data transfers and lower latency for data-heavy PHP applications like WordPress or Magento. Additionally, Hostinger’s servers use LiteSpeed technology for improved performance and stability, and it enables the HTTP/2 protocol by default to process more concurrent user requests.

The only drawback is that Hostinger’s list of supported PHP versions is pretty limited, particularly compared to some other options on this list. But this is only really an issue if you’re hosting or maintaining legacy code.

Features

  • PHP cache plugin. LSCache is one of the best caching solutions for websites built on PHP. With Hostinger, LSCache is already integrated into your dashboard. You can activate it with a couple of clicks.
  • Git integration. Hostinger works natively with Git, so you can manage the deployment of your PHP repositories directly within your hosting dashboard. You can also use webhooks to subscribe to GitHub events.
  • User-friendly control panel. Hostinger’s hPanel is more streamlined and far less cluttered than cPanel. You can quickly switch between different PHP versions by visiting the PHP Configuration menu in the Advanced settings.
  • Account sharing. On your account, you can grant management access to specific services for clients, other team members, or freelance professionals. This helps you work with a team on your PHP projects without worrying about unauthorized changes to your settings or domains.

IONOS PHP Extended Support plans for older PHP versions
IONOS provides additional security for applications using legacy PHP code
IONOS’ PHP Extended Support hosting provides a home for older PHP-powered websites and applications. While official support for PHP versions typically only lasts 4 years, IONOS extends this by fixing known vulnerabilities in older versions. Whether you’re maintaining legacy applications or have compatibility issues with newer versions, IONOS can keep your website running smoothly.

IONOS is also a good option for PHP-friendly resources. It supports up to 5,000 subdomains on all its shared hosting plans. If you’re planning to migrate to a newer version of PHP, you can test this on a subdomain (or several) before making any final commitments. The affordable Plus plan also supports an unlimited number of MySQL databases, which means you’ll be able to host several projects on one plan.

Keep in mind that IONOS’ PHP Extended Support does come with extra fees – and this is chargeable from the moment the version you’re using becomes a legacy version. While you may incur additional charges this way, IONOS still offers competitive plans and a deep discount for new customers, making it an affordable host overall.

Features

  • PHP version control. In the IONOS Control Center settings, you can quickly select the most suitable PHP version for your apps and scripts. You can upgrade or roll back your PHP version at any time.
  • Speed optimizations. For PHP versions 8.0 and higher, OPcache is already activated. This allows your site to load faster, ensuring a better experience for all your site’s visitors.
  • Deploy Now plans. You don’t even need to be an existing customer to try out this free plan for hobbyist developers. If you’re looking to test PHP applications stored on Git, you can deploy up to 3 applications for free.
  • Hosting with plenty of resources. All IONOS plans include unlimited bandwidth, a free SSL certificate, daily backups, and 24/7 support. If you need more resources, IONOS’ VPS hosting is just as affordable as web hosting and offers considerably more storage.

PHP versions supported 4–8 (Extended), 8.1–8.4 (Standard)
Databases supported MySQL, MariaDB, MS SQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Oracle
Other developer features Git integration, SSH access (VPS), root access (VPS)
Starting price $1.00

SiteGround Site Tools control panel interface
SiteGround’s control panel offers all the tools you need to set up your PHP project
SiteGround’s biggest advantage is Site Tools, a powerful proprietary control panel where you can manage most aspects of your PHP hosting. In addition to PHP settings and database management, you’ll also have access to security settings, speed optimization tools, and staging sites. You can even access visitor statistics here. If you’re after a polished dashboard that’s developer-friendly but simple to use, this is it.

Another perk is SiteGround’s Ultrafast PHP server optimization. Available on the GrowBig plan and above, this special PHP setup minimizes overheads to speed up your applications. Among its benefits, Ultrafast PHP lowers server memory usage to increase server capacity for traffic spikes. While you might find the Standard PHP adequate for small PHP sites, Ultrafast PHP can boost the performance of more demanding sites.

The biggest downside I found is that if you want PHP version management, SSH access, or MySQL databases, you’ll need a reseller hosting plan. This is a little more expensive than the standard web hosting plans. That said, it’s well worth it if you manage multiple client sites and applications, or even if you just want to host your apps in a more powerful environment.

A free domain name is included with some hosting plans from SiteGround

Features

  • Site Tools demo. There’s nothing worse than picking a host you like only to find that the control panel lacks usability or takes hours to load a request. The Site Tools demo gives you a behind-the-scenes tour so you know exactly what you’re paying for.
  • Daily backups. Unlike some other hosting providers on this list, every SiteGround plan comes with daily backups as standard. If you need to roll back any changes you’ve made to your PHP applications, you’re covered.
  • Staging tool. This lets you create a copy of your site or application in a new environment to test any modifications before going live. SiteGround also creates a backup of your existing site, so it’s easy to reverse your changes if you find the new version is still buggy.
  • Auto-migration. If you’re already managing WordPress sites, you can use SiteGround’s migration plugin to move them over to your hosting account. It’s super handy to have if you’re a WordPress-focused developer that manages multiple client sites.

HostArmada web hosting
HostArmada’s hosting plans provide tons of resources for PHP developers
When it comes to stability, HostArmada’s powerful NGINX web server software (available on all its plans) greatly improves the performance of PHP-based applications. It also offers a proprietary feature called Cache Commander, which provides you with useful tools to manage your site’s dynamic and static caching.

While this might sound challenging to use, HostArmada makes it easy to access these tools via its intuitive and streamlined dashboard. There’s also a MultiPHP Manager tool that allows you to choose different PHP versions for your domains or subdomains without having to jump into your file manager. On top of that, HostArmada provides support for multiple PHP frameworks like Symfony, Laravel, and Zend.

For all it offers, HostArmada delivers surprising value. It’s not the cheapest host you’ll find and you’ll need to start off with a higher-tier plan to get your money’s worth, but considering its performance, advanced PHP management features, and cloud-based hosting, you’ll be hard-pressed to find such a competitive option at similar prices.

Features

  • Additional PHP security. HostArmada’s security suite automatically patches all available PHP versions against known vulnerabilities. This way, you can be sure your hosting server and PHP applications remain secure.
  • LiteSpeed web servers. Besides the aforementioned NGINX web servers, HostArmada also offers LiteSpeed servers on its top plan, which can help you get extraordinary performances with PHP-based CMSs.
  • Additional developer support. On top of PHP, all plans support Python, Node.js, and Perl. You can also use Git’s version control tool directly in cPanel to manage and contribute to repositories.
  • 24/7 support. If you’ve stayed up all night and your PHP application is finally ready to deploy at 5 am (no judgement!), then someone will be on hand to help if you come across any hosting issues. If you’re awake, so is customer support.

PHP versions supported 5.6–8.3
Databases supported MySQL, MariaDB, MSSQL, Redis
Other developer features Git integration, SSH access, Bash access, cron job support, root access (VPS, dedicated server)
Starting price $2.49

5. InterServer: Unlimited PHP Hosting With FastCGI Support

InterServer landing page with network connection speed features
InterServer provides high-performance hosting for less
InterServer has a single Standard shared hosting plan with a ton of unlimited resources like storage, bandwidth, websites, and MySQL databases. Each plan also comes with one-click installations for dozens of PHP-powered applications, including WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal. You can also find lesser-known PHP apps for polls, forums, and news servers.

You’ll also get several built-in caching tools and protocols to improve the performance of your PHP applications. InterServer uses LSCache for dynamic caching, RAID 10 for faster data retrieval from storage, and it stores smaller files in RAM for speedy loading. There’s also FastCGI support to handle multiple PHP requests instead of starting a new process for each request. This can significantly reduce response time.

While unlimited hosting plans sound great, servers only have so much storage and throughput available. Because of that, I’d only recommend the Standard shared hosting for hobbyist PHP developers or if you’re only managing a few small client sites. Fortunately, if you need more resources, Interserver’s Boost web hosting and cloud VPS hosting plans are really affordable.

Features

  • PHP selector. InterServer’s version of cPanel comes with a PHP menu that makes it easier to select your version and enable extensions. For example, you can easily activate OPCache to enhance your website’s performance.
  • Comprehensive security services. If your site suffers an attack or gets hacked, InterServer will clean up and restore your site free of charge. This also applies to new clients – migrate your compromised site to InterServer and it will get your site back up and running.
  • LiteSpeed web server. LiteSpeed is arguably the best web server software for PHP applications. It’s faster than the more traditional Apache, and far more dependable during traffic spikes.
  • Vast PHP version support. InterServer allows you to use PHP versions 4.4–8.4, so it’s ideal for running legacy applications or more up-to-date websites. But unlike IONOS’ extended support, InterServer doesn’t provide support or security updates for previous versions.
Our expert InterServer review has more information on plans.

PHP versions supported 4.4–8.4
Databases supported MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, SQLite, MS SQL, Oracle
Other developer features Git integration, SSH access, cron job support, root access (VPS)
Starting price $2.50

6. GreenGeeks: Stellar Support For Beginner-Friendly PHP Hosting

GreenGeeks eco-friendly shared hosting features
GreenGeeks’ hosting stands out for its commitment to the environment
GreenGeeks stands out for two things: its eco-friendly practices and its superior customer support. Support truly goes out of its way to make you feel more confident and less intimidated when managing your website. Plus, if you’re migrating your website from another hosting provider, its team will handle everything for you.

Unlike any other host I’ve come across, GreenGeeks has a renewable energy matching scheme to offset the pollution caused by its hosting service. Every year, it purchases 3 times the renewable energy it consumes and routes this back into the grid. It also plants a tree for every new hosting account.

Outside of this, GreenGeeks lacks any other standout features, so I only recommend it if you want exceptional customer service and are starting off with basic PHP applications. That said, you’ll still get most PHP features you need, like SSH access, MySQL databases, and Git integration.

A free domain name is included with some hosting plans from GreenGeeks

Features

  • Easy scaling. On top of shared hosting, GreenGeeks also offers VPS and reseller hosting. Once you move from being a hobbyist developer to a professional with clients to manage, it’s easy (and cheap) to upgrade to the extra resources you need. All you have to do is get in touch with GreenGeeks’ reliable support team.
  • Unlimited databases. You’ll have the support you need if you’ve got multiple projects on the go or need to hop between several databases in one project.
  • Free malware removal. If your website ever gets hacked, GreenGeeks will tidy up your website at no extra charge. You can also roll back to one of your (uncompromised) daily backups.
  • Free domain name. You’ll get a free domain name for the first year of your hosting service. This means that if you’re getting ready to launch your first PHP-powered website or application, you can reduce your overall launch costs with GreenGeeks.

Other developer features Git integration, SSH access, root access (VPS)

Other Notable PHP Hosting Services

7. Nexcess

Nexcess web hosting features
Nexcess promises to have the ideal hosting package for any project
Nexcess stands out as a great choice for professional PHP developers and agencies. Its web hosting services are specifically designed for PHP apps, including WordPress and Magento. It covers PHP versions 5.6 to 8+, so you’ll be able to host legacy applications. There are also different packages available for agencies that include free premium support, managed migrations, and account access management.

Each plan comes with up to 24 hours of free autoscaling, which automatically allocates extra resources if you experience a spike in traffic. As you might expect from this level of service, Nexcess isn’t exactly cheap nor does it offer generous discounts, even on the lowest service tiers. However, it might be worth it for the level of scalability you get.

8. hosting.com

hosting.com WordPress hosting features
WordPress hosting can still offer a ton of benefits to PHP developers
Hosting.com has a lot to offer WordPress-focused PHP developers. You can use all versions of PHP (including 8.4), and you’ll also get unlimited MySQL databases, REDIS caching, staging areas, and more. On top of this, if you opt for a managed WordPress package, the Performance Plus upgrade makes sure your clients’ WordPress sites stay stable during traffic spikes.

One of the reasons hosting.com doesn’t appear until now is because its resource allocation is a little bare compared to the other hosts on my list. The Starter WP plan provides less storage than Hostinger’s Premium plan, despite being similar in price. It also only supports one website, while you can host up to 25 with Hostinger.

9. InMotion Hosting

InMotion Hosting's PHP web hosting
InMotion Hosting’s shared PHP hosting offers tons of resources
InMotion Hosting has a data center on each US coast, which makes it best suited to serve a US audience. Its entry-level shared hosting plan is fairly affordable, and it comes with 100 GB of storage and unmetered bandwidth. The latest PHP versions are all supported, from 7.4 to 8.4.

That said, if you need more resources, its VPS hosting plans are more expensive than other hosts I’ve covered today. That’s even before the price goes up at renewal. On the other hand, the highest tier of shared hosting covers 40 websites with 300 GB of storage, so you might not need to upgrade to VPS for a while.

10. Cloudways

Cloudways PHP hosting
Consider Cloudways if you want to use the latest in cloud PHP hosting technology
Cloudways focuses solely on providing premium managed cloud hosting for developers, agencies, and enterprises. Instead of offering a standard plan, it gives you several hosting options across the most powerful cloud hosting platforms (including AWS, Google Cloud, Linode, and DigitalOcean, its parent company).

Unfortunately, there are extra charges to budget for on top of your monthly fee. For example, if you use AWS, then you’ll pay an extra fee per GB of storage to account for off-site backups. Fortunately, Cloudways makes these extra fees clear before you even click “Get Started,” and I appreciate the transparency.

These Are the Best PHP Hosting Providers, but Which Is Right for You?

Unfortunately, there’s no such thing as a “one-size-fits-all” solution for PHP hosting. Some are great for professional developers and agencies hosting client sites, while others are better suited for hobbyist developers looking to get smaller applications launched. Each host in my list supports at least PHP 8.3, along with a few earlier releases, but there are noteworthy distinctions.

For instance, if you want a cheap PHP hosting provider that also delivers outstanding performance, Hostinger is your best bet. Its servers are optimized for PHP-based websites, and you can take advantage of LSCache to get the best possible website loading speeds.

If you prefer to run your site using an older version of PHP and still want quality service and support, IONOS can provide you with all you need. With its Extended Support feature, you can go all the way back to PHP 4.0 and still have the support to keep your website running smoothly and securely.

Alternatively, if you‘re a developer (or beginner) looking for easy PHP management, you can’t go wrong with SiteGround. Its Site Tools control panel features everything you need to set up and manage your PHP projects. It also offers a ton of developer tools and a pretty comprehensive reseller plan.

Here’s a quick recap of my top PHP hosting providers.

FAQ

Why is my PHP version important?

PHP versions are only officially supported for 4 years after release. This means that after 4 years, the latest version won’t receive updates, security patches, or performance optimizations. When you run your website on an older version of PHP, you open yourself up to critical issues such as memory corruption and security holes. Fortunately, IONOS offers support for older PHP versions, so you can keep your site or app running smoothly.

Which PHP hosting service is best for developers?

That depends. If you’re a hobbyist developer who needs a platform for experimentation, then SiteGround is a great choice. However, this host might be too bare-bones if you’re hosting client applications across various PHP versions. There’s no single PHP hosting provider that’s the absolute best for every single developer.

What is the best server type for PHP hosting?

Look for hosts that offer NGINX servers, like HostArmada. This web server infrastructure is one of the fastest on the market and offers great reliability if your websites or applications need to handle high levels of traffic. HostArmada is a great example of an NGINX host with powerful PHP hosting features.

Can I host a PHP site for free?

You can, but most free web hosts fill your site with intrusive ads, compromise on security and performance, or don’t offer the tools you need for a satisfactory hosting experience. That’s not to say that there aren’t any budget options out there. Some of our favorite hosting providers deliver exceptional value for their price.
