Features and Ease of Use

mediatemple 1

Media Temple offers a suite of end-to-end hosting services, fully managed cloud, VPS, dedicated servers, and enterprise solutions.

This provider calls its shared hosting “Grid” to reflect the fact that you’ll be sharing server space with other websites. The Grid plans typically include:

  • SSD storage for enhanced speed and reliability
  • 30-day automatic backups
  • DDoS and intrusion protection
  • Sucuri’s advanced security and firewall
  • Smooth scaling between databases
  • Custom-built control panel
  • Unlimited data transfers
  • Up to 1000 email boxes

The three Grid (shared hosting) plans are named Personal, Pro, and Elite.

The entry-level Personal plan starts you off with 20 GB SSD storage, 100 databases, 1 TB scalable bandwidth, and hosting for up to 100 websites. This could be a good plan for hosting a blog since it features the automatic installation of popular CMS applications, an easy-to-use control panel, and SSD storage for faster data read/write speeds.

The intermediate Pro plan comes with 2 TB scalable bandwidth, a CDN and web application firewall (WAF), and hosting for up to 500 websites. This plan could be perfect for building websites since it includes DDoS mitigation and malware removal, an intuitive control panel, an email management interface for swift configuration of custom addresses, and a global CDN for accelerated load times worldwide.

The high-end Elite plan gives you 250 GB SSD storage, 500 databases, 5 TB scalable bandwidth, CDN and WAF, and hosting for up to 500 websites. This plan could be appropriate for an e-commerce project or for building a custom application. It also features a dedicated MySQL database container to isolate mission-critical databases, a one-click cart, a clustered architecture for improved uptime, and GIT integration for efficient version control.

Pricing and Support

media temple 2

Media Temple’s shared hosting plan prices are astronomically high. Unfortunately, there is no free trial and no money-back guarantee, so there is no effective way of being able to see what you’re going to get.

You have to pay extra for an SSL certificate that is essential for securing your site, improving your search engine ranking, and increasing customer trust. You also have to pay extra for the Virb website builder, but this does come with a ten-day free trial.

All Grid plans can be purchased on monthly, yearly, two-year or three-year terms using a credit card. There are discounts for longer-term commitments.

U.S.-based 24/7/365 support can be accessed via live chat, twitter, telephone, or contact form. For self-support, Media Temple provides an extensive set of Resources (containing web hosting guides, resources, and tips), a Solution Center (which answers common hosting questions), a Blog (which tells you how to start and finish projects at Media Temple), and a comprehensive Community (comprising self-help articles and videos).
