Host Mayo is a small hosting company that simply isn’t a match for big brands like Hostinger. The bigger hosting companies simply offer a better price for similar configuration.
Host Mayo is a U.S. provider, founded in 2008, with the vision to provide the fastest hosting in the world. It plans to expand and by 2020 have localized services for multiple worldwide countries. The website is in American English.
Features and Ease of Use
Host Mayo offers a comprehensive selection of hosting services including SSD web hosting, business web hosting, reseller hosting, virtual private servers, dedicated servers, domains and WordPress hosting.
The shared website hosting comes with the following core features:
- 99% uptime guarantee
- Daily backups of all data
- Domain registration available
- One, five, or unlimited add-on domains
- Free Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate
- From 1GB to 25GB disk space
- Unlimited bandwidth limit
Host Mayo offers four shared hosting plans called Starter, Economy, Professional, and Enterprise. The plans come with 1GB, 5GB, 15GB, and 25GB of disk space respectively. While every plan includes “unlimited” bandwidth (note, the caveat of normal usage), the two higher packages also include unlimited users, domains, databases, and email accounts.
The added value doesn’t stop there, however. The plans are jam-packed full of extra features. There is a beginner-friendly Softaculous one-click installer (although it’s not clear for how many programs) with auto-updates, as well as e-commerce ready features such as a choice of Magento, OS Commerce, or PrestaShop shopping cart. There is also free website migration on offer.
Solid state disk drives are used for storage, which means increased reliability and disk read speeds up to ten times faster than hard disk drives, as well as cPanel for an easy to use and reliable control panel. Host Mayo uses Intel Xeon processors and CloudLinux operating system, and sweeten the deal with a free Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate and Cloudflare CDN.
A small consideration but not a deal breaker, is that Host Mayo is a reseller of servers rented from a private company. This comes with the usual caveat that there may be slower response times to issues, as well as slower website load speeds. Also, while there’s a 99% uptime guarantee, it is not backed by a service level agreement.
Pricing and Support
Considering the extensive list of features included in all of the plans, the packages offer very good value for money. If you only need to host one domain, even the Starter package has more than enough resources for most website owners. Domain registration and SSL certificates are added costs, however, that’s okay given the acceptable cost for the base packages.
Plans can be bought in one-month or one-year terms, and the price is reduced by over 15% if you purchase on year upfront. There is a thirty-day money-back guarantee as well. Be sure to note that domain registration is an added cost, while SSL certificates are included free in all packages.
The support is excellent. You can reach Host Mayo support via live chat, email, Skype and phone, as well as utilize the forum and FAQ page on the website. I’m not sure the official business hours for support, however, each time I’ve asked a question on live chat, they’ve answered straight away and been extremely helpful and cheerful.
