Zenpipe Review 2024 – Is It Worth It?

Mark Holden Mark Holden Web Hosting Expert

Malaysian host Zenpipe brings more than ten years of experience to the hosting table. Its bare-bones hosting plans might appeal to smaller and startup businesses, but the Zen-like simplicity could be a little too simple for my tastes.

Screenshot 2019 10 01 at 16.07.24Proudly Malaysian company Zenpipe Nexus Sdn Bhd (or simply, Zenpipe) was founded in 2005.

Its English- and Malay-language website advertises shared hosting, dedicated servers, VPS, reseller hosting, and server colocation services complemented by domain registration services, SSL, and cloud solutions. Prices are displayed in Malaysian ringgit, but (unfortunately) the order button for the VPS plans is broken.

Features and Ease of Use

Zenpipe’s servers sit in a state-of-the-art data center in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. Like many Malaysian hosting providers, Zenpipe’s hosting services are backed by a 99.9% network uptime SLA. It also assures the safety of your data by performing hourly backups on remote servers.

As its name implies, Zenpipe likes to keep things simple; maybe too simple. There are just three shared hosting plans — Standard, Professional, and Expert — that differ in disk space, bandwidth, and the number of hosted domains. However, they have the following features in common:

  • DirectAdmin control panel
  • Unlimited MySQL databases
  • Unlimited email accounts
  • Unlimited subdomains
  • Installatron application installer
  • From 5 GB to 30 GB disk space
  • From 1 to 10 hosted domains
  • From 10 GB to 50 GB bandwidth

Although I’d prefer the more popular cPanel control panel, the provided DirectAdmin control panel does the job of letting you manage your website files, DNS settings, backups, SSL, and more.

Zenpipe provides enough disk space and bandwidth for beginners, personal bloggers, and small businesses, but it doesn’t bring anything unique to the table, and it might not be enough for bigger businesses. If you want to scale up to a private server with full root access, you’ll have to pick a VPS plan that provides 512 MB to 4 GB RAM, 50 GB to 800 GB bandwidth, and 10 GB to 80 GB disk space.

Pricing and Support

Zenpipe’s prices are high compared with other Malaysian hosting providers with similar feature sets. On the plus side, there are no setup fees, and you get a 30-day money-back guarantee that gives you some time to change your mind. All shared hosting subscriptions are billed on an annual basis, and you can pay via various popular methods.

You can contact Zenpipe’s customer support team via ticket, telephone, or email. Unfortunately, my test ticket submission went unanswered, and the supposedly 24/7 live chat was offline when I wanted to try it. If you have to resort to self-support, you will find a comprehensive knowledge base that comprises a surprisingly high number of helpful tutorials:

Zenpipe keeps things simple, but a little too simple for my liking. Its bare-bones hosting plans come at a high cost. However, with improved pre-sales support, it could appeal to smaller and startup businesses.

  • 99.9% uptime SLA
  • 30-day money-back guarantee
  • Free setup
  • Comprehensive knowledge base

  • Unresponsive support
  • No Windows shared hosting
