Portuguese provider wlconnect is a web hosting brand of Weblevel – Tecnologias de Informação, Lda. Founded in 2005, this provider offers mainly virtuals server and dedicated server solutions along with maintenance and technical support services. Since it is registered in the Microsoft SPLA licensing program, wlconnect can also offer Microsoft products at affordable prices.
The wlconnect website is unpolished, but it provides much of the information you’ll need in Portuguese and English.
Features and Ease of Use
VPS, dedicated server and colocation services are provided from two technologically advanced and certified data centers in Portugal; one in Porto and the other in Lisbon. This provider doesn’t do shared or reseller hosting, so you’ll need to look elsewhere for those kinds of hosting solutions.
The four Linux-based VPS hosting packages vary mainly in terms of disk space and RAM, and they include the following features:
- 20 GB to 150 GB web space
- Unlimited bandwidth
- 512 MB to 4096 MB RAM
- One IP address
As a cPanel partner, wlconnect provides VPS customers with the cPanel control panel at extra cost. Your also need to pay extra for an optional Windows Server 2012 license and/or an additional IP address.
Alternatively, wlconnect offers four dedicated server packages that include such features as:
- Windows Server 2012 or Linux
- A choice of control panels
- Unlimited bandwidth
- 2 x 500 GB to 2 x 2 TB disk space
- 4 GB to 16 GB RAM
With any dedicated server package, you can choose from a selection of control panels such as cPanel (unlimited domains), Plesk, WebsitePanel, SolusVM, Webmin, and more. You control panel opens up a world of possibilities to install your favorite applications, including WordPress and Joomla.
Other features include SSD storage, SSL certificates, PHP support, phpMyAdmin, MySQL databases, Microsoft SQL databases, Remote MySQL connections, SSH access, Cron jobs, CDP backups, full server management, firewall, and remote reboot.
Pricing and Support
VPS monthly subscriptions are reasonably priced but not cheap, and you have to pay extra for some of the essentials like cPanel. You have to contact the company to request a quote for dedicated server prices. Payments can be made by PayPal or bank transfer, but all services are non-refundable, so you might want to request a free trial first.
Self-support resources are scarce, if not non-existent. And contacting wlconnect’s customer support wasn’t easy since there is no live chat, and my ticket submission failed. However, I did receive a helpful reply within two days to my pre-sales exploratory email:
