Established in 2020, Hostragons is a new entrant to the web hosting market. It is a Turkish company headquartered in the Pitcairn Islands that provides shared hosting, WordPress hosting, reseller, VPS, and dedicated servers. All of Hostragons’ physical servers are located in a Tier III data center in Turkey. It also has servers in European data centers in the U.K., Belgium, Germany, and France.
The company provides other web-related services such as domain registration, WordPress optimization, Organic Hit Delivery, and Google Ads optimization.
The Hostragons website is clean, informative, and set to Turkish by default. However, you can choose to view the content in more than 15 different languages, including English, French, Spanish, and German. All prices are in U.S. dollars.
Features and Ease of Use
Hostragons has three shared hosting categories – Linux, Windows, and Overseas. It divides each category into four levels.
Both the Linux and Windows plans are hosted on servers in Turkey. The Overseas plans come with the same features and resource allocations as the Linux plans, but they’re hosted on servers in Europe and are more expensive.
Here are some key features you can look forward to when signing up for a Linux or Overseas shared hosting package:
- SSD storage
- 99.9% uptime
- Free SSL
- Softaculous one-click installer
- CloudLinux OS
- Free CDN
- LiteSpeed Cache
Hostragons recommends the smallest plan, Adrastea, for beginners, as it comes with 5 GB SSD disk space, 10 GB of bandwidth, 1 CPU core, and you can host one website. However, you won’t get subdomains or Hostragons’ special features such as Railgun, Polish, WAF, or Mirage.
If you’re running a more demanding website and want unlimited resources together with full access to Hostragons’ features, the Ananke package is your best option. You’ll get unlimited SSD storage, unlimited bandwidth, unlimited hosted websites, five databases, four email accounts, and eight subdomains. You’ll also have access to Polish (visual optimization), Mirage (mobile optimization), and Railgun (allowing uncached files to be processed faster).
Some excellent security features come as standard with all plans:
- DDoS attack protection
- Automatic bot registration block
- Brute force password attempt protection
- Virus and spam protection
- Dedicated IP address
Hostragons provide free automatic weekly backups by default, which isn’t bad, but also not enough to safeguard your data. On the other hand, it offers a free CDN to make your website more accessible to visitors from other locations than Turkey and boost its loading speed. However, you should expect slow speeds in remote locations such as Asia and Australia since Hostragons’ servers are in Europe.
If you want more reliable performance, faster speeds, and higher quality hosting at an affordable rate, don’t miss this extensive top web hosting comparison.
Pricing and Support
Hostragons has attractive introductory discounts with its shared hosting packages, but be aware that the renewal rates aren’t so cheap. You can choose to be billed monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, annually, biennially, or triennially. As you’ve probably guessed, the longer your subscription term, the less you pay.
You will get a free .xyz domain with most plans and a free .com domain name with the most expensive plans (Lin-Ananke, EU-Albiorix, and Win-Ymir).
On the negative side, Hostragons only has a measly 3-day money-back guarantee. While it does have a free shared hosting plan (1 hosted website, 256 MB SSD storage, 1 GB bandwidth, and free SSL certificate), it is only available in Turkey.
Even though the website is informative and there’s an FAQ section for each service, the knowledgebase is empty and doesn’t contain guides or tutorials. However, you can find some useful information on the Hostragons blog.
If you want to contact customer support, you can do so through live chat, support ticket, email, or phone. I had a few questions, so I went for the live chat option, and the agent solved my queries promptly. My only concern is that the customer support isn’t available 24/7.
