Founded in 1999, Applied Innovations is a Microsoft Gold Certified hosting provider that’s based in Boca Raton, Florida, U.S.A. Run by a team of Windows cloud hosting experts, the company specializes in Windows-based hosting solutions for small to medium-sized businesses. Applied Innovations has a data center is in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It also sports a very sleek website and live chat support in English.
Features and Ease of Use
Applied Innovations offers different hosting services including web hosting, PHP hosting, Windows cloud hosting, Windows virtual private servers (Hyper-V), Microsoft SQL server, and Windows dedicated servers. Some of its managed shared hosting features include:
- Up to unlimited bandwidth
- 100% uptime SLA
- 24/7 technical support
- Unlimited email accounts
- One-click app installer
- Web based management interface.
While Applied Innovations offers both Windows and Linux support for its cloud server plans, it only provides Windows-based shared hosting accounts. All shared hosting plans are fully managed, support MySQL and Microsoft SQL databases, and allows remote connections via VPN, but doesn’t allow SSH access.
All shared hosting packages come with MSP Control and a one-click installer where you can easily install dozens of applications, but I would have loved to see a site builder thrown in as well. Daily backups of all your files and databases are also a plus. On the flip side, I find the storage space which varies between 4 GB and 50 GB somewhat limited compared to other vendors.
The control panel isn’t customizable in shared hosting, but if you get a cloud server and manage it yourself, you can utilize whichever control panel you prefer. CDN isn’t included either, but you can have that added as an additional service.
Pricing and Support
I must admit that I held my breath for a moment when I looked at the price list of the shared hosting packages offered by Applied Innovations. Given the narrow range of features, the prices are really expensive. Applied Innovations offers three shared hosting plans: Express, Business, and Cloud Hosting. All three packages share several features such as unlimited email accounts, single-click installer, daily backups, and 100% SLA. On the other hand, they vary in web space, bandwidth, and number of websites.
The Express package comes with 4 GB disk space, 1,000 GB bandwidth, and 3 websites, whereas the Business plan includes 6 GB disk space, same bandwidth limit, and 5 websites. The Cloud Hosting plan is the highest and the most expensive among all three. It comes with 50 GB disk space, unlimited bandwidth, and unlimited number of websites.
Fortunately, Applied Innovations offers a 30-day refund policy, which is enough to test and evaluate the service. It also accepts credit cards and PayPal as payment options.
Customer service is pretty neat. There’s a 24/7 live chat channel which I tested and couldn’t be more pleased. I asked so many questions and the agent I spoke to was very professional and knowledgeable. Other support options include a Knowledgebase, phone support, email support, and ticket support. Applied Innovations is also active on social networks.
