Based in the United States, Acenet has been providing web hosting services since 2003. They offer what they call “slightly shared” hosting as well as cloud, reseller, and dedicated server hosting packages.
Features and Ease of Use
Acenet invests heavily into advanced server technologies, then caps the number of users per server in order to maintain optimal uptime and server performance for their shared hosting customers. Each state-of-the-art server houses only 150 users and average 93.49% idle time. This means that there’s a huge buffer for any surges in traffic or processing power, which makes sure that even on a shared hosting account, your website always loads quickly for your visitors.
Interestingly enough, Acenet seems to have restructured their shared hosting packages and now have only one package available. This comes with:
- 32GB SSD storage
- 320GB monthly transfer
- Up to 10 websites hosted per account
- Dedicated IP address
- Daily remote backups
- 1000 email accounts
- 100 MySQL databases
Also included is a 99.9% uptime guarantee, a 15-minute average response time for support tickets, full support for scripting languages, and the Softaculous one-click app installer. It also comes with a free professional website migration service — something which many other hosting providers typically charge for.
These included features are fairly decent. However, it seems an odd choice to have only one shared hosting package, especially one pitched at such a high level. This plan would be ideal for businesses or small agencies with multiple websites, but it would be less appropriate for individual users or budget-conscious startups who simply want to set up a single website.
If you’ve outgrown your shared hosting package, Acenet also has cloud servers and enterprise-class dedicated servers available. The cloud servers afford you a minimum of 48GB SSD storage and 500GB transfer, and go all the way up to 768GB SSD storage and a whopping 8TB transfer. Power supply and network connections are fully redundant, ensuring high-availability servers.
Pricing and Support
Their single all-inclusive shared hosting package is basically all you need to ensure your website runs smoothly. It isn’t the most affordable shared hosting package in the market, but you do get a lot for the fixed price that you pay per month.
You do have to pay the entire annual fee up front. However, if you’re unsatisfied with their service, you can request for a full refund anytime within the first 30 days under their money back guarantee.
Acenet provides support via a ticket system and email. There doesn’t seem to be any phone or live chat support available, though. This can be quite an issue for those who require more immediate responses to their questions or hosting issues. That said, they do promise a 15-minute average response time for submitted support tickets.
