Food insecurity in the UK, Canada, and Australia is worsening. At the same time, due to rising inflation and shrinking household budgets, much of the support that food banks rely on has been slowing.
The Trussell Trust, the UK’s the largest food bank network, reports a 37% increase in food parcels distributed in 2022-3.
Two years of high inflation and government cutbacks to Universal Credit has driven demand.
Similarly in
Canada and
Australia, high inflation and inadequate social assistance has driven record numbers of people to their local foodbanks.
I’ve created this list of food banks in the UK, Canada, and Australia to help these local organizations meet their areas’ needs. I encourage readers to use the list to find organizations that could most benefit from your help.
If you’re facing food insecurity in the UK, visit the
Trussell Trust website; in Canada call 211 for information about local foodbanks; and in Australia, visit the website for
Foodbank Australia, the country’s largest hunger-relief charity.

The Bottom Line
No family should be faced with the choice of feeding their children or paying bills. Local foodbanks help ensure that families have the nutrition they need to support a healthy lifestyle, and the support these organizations provide improves both financial and food security.
The good will of donors and volunteers enable these organizations to meet demand. But with rising inflation and dwindling social programs, the number of donors and volunteers is shrinking.
I hope this list has helped you find a food bank in your area that you feel comfortable contributing to.
