OpenAI Introduces AI Jobs and Certification Platforms
OpenAI announced two new initiatives: the OpenAI Jobs Platform and OpenAI Certifications. The initiatives focus on connecting employers with AI-skilled talent and helping candidates get fluent in AI. With these programs, the ChatGPT maker aims to address the ongoing workforce disruption as AI gets adopted across industries.
“At OpenAI, we can’t eliminate that disruption. But what we can do is help more people become fluent in AI and connect them with companies that need their skills, to give people more economic opportunities,” Fidji Simo, OpenAI’s new CEO of Applications, said in the announcement.
The OpenAI Jobs Platform will be a marketplace for AI talent across all levels, from general AI literacy to AI-specific expertise. As expected, the platform will use AI to match employers with potential candidates.
The startup is already working with a diverse range of organizations, including retailer Walmart, professional services firm Accenture, job search platform Indeed, the Bay Area Council, and the Delaware governor’s office, “to help everyone take advantage of the opportunities that AI has to offer.” The jobs platform will also feature a separate track dedicated to connecting small businesses and local governments with vetted AI talent.
Backed by data showing that AI-skilled workers earn more and boost productivity, the company is launching OpenAI Certifications. The program, which builds on the free OpenAI Academy learning platform introduced earlier this year, helps employers find verified talent while enabling candidates to showcase their expertise.
Users can prepare for and complete certification all within ChatGPT’s Study mode. Companies can also use Study mode to train employees on the skills they need. OpenAI aims to certify 10 million Americans by 2030 through OpenAI Certifications.
Despite fears of a shrinking job market, OpenAI believes “AI will unlock more opportunities for more people than any technology in history.” That said, the company warns workers and employers must adapt and “learn how to work in new ways.”
“If we want to put more power into the hands of more people, not just a fortunate few, we need to help everyone, at every level, take advantage of the opportunities that come with AI. We’ve still got a long way to go, but this is an important step in the right direction,” Simo expressed her enthusiasm about the new platforms.
