Building Real-Time Intelligent Systems: An Interview with Marty Sprinzen, Founder of Vantiq

Luka Dragovic Written by:
In 2015, Vantiq was founded with a vision to bridge the growing gap between the complexity of global challenges, like climate change, and the ability of systems to respond in real-time.

The company’s mission has since evolved to focus on situational intelligence, enabling critical decisions to be made instantly through event-driven platforms in industries such as healthcare, defense, and public safety. With the rise of Generative AI, Vantiq has integrated these models into real-time systems, empowering environments to think, adapt, and take immediate action.

As the world increasingly operates in real-time, Vantiq’s platform ensures that infrastructure can learn, react, and protect when it matters most, as highlighted in this interview with Website Planet.

What motivated the founding of Vantiq in 2015 and how has the company’s mission evolved since then?

When we started Vantiq, we weren’t just thinking about software. We all grew up in software so we were already thinking about systems—the kind that support healthcare, defense, transportation, energy, and public safety. What we saw was a growing gap between the complexity of world events, including climate change, and the speed at which systems could respond.

The question that guided us was simple: How can systems respond to the world in the moment it changes? That question led to the development of a platform focused on enabling situational intelligence in real-time. For example, a doctor in an ER can receive synthesized insights—generated from live inputs such as sensors, AI models, and remote teams—to make life-saving decisions in seconds. That kind of real-time, high-stakes innovation is what we make possible. Our goal was to give software the capacity to take action, not just observe. Today, that same thinking applies to how AI integrates into infrastructure. Automation alone isn’t the end goal. The real need is for systems that can think, react, adapt, and remain accountable at the edge of critical operations.

How does Vantiq’s platform leverage real-time event-driven architecture to enhance decision-making processes?

Everything begins with scale. Data from sensors, systems, users, and machines flows continuously. But without the ability to process and respond, that data is inert. What matters is how we react to that data in real-time, in context, and with the ability to trigger action.

That’s what we mean by situational intelligence in real-time. The outcome isn’t more dashboards. It’s a responsive environment. In practice, it means a hospital can reroute staff and equipment during a crisis, or a city can adjust its infrastructure based on live inputs. These are systems that respond as fast as the world moves.

Can you elaborate on the integration of Generative AI within Vantiq’s platform and its impact on application development

The rise of Generative AI has been significant, but it presents clear challenges—chief among them, reliability and contextual grounding. Our view is that GenAI becomes far more useful when it’s part of an orchestrated system with rules, context, and oversight.

That’s what we enable. By embedding these models into a real-time, event-driven environment, we ensure outputs are tethered to logic and real-world events. This allows GenAI to contribute meaningfully to complex systems, such as triaging medical cases or supporting remote operations in defense or infrastructure. It’s a way to translate generation into action. Delivered with situational intelligence in real-time.

What are some key features of the Vantiq Intelligence Platform updates that improve developer productivity and system integration?

What’s Now Possible with the Vantiq Intelligence Platform:

• Systems that think and take action in real-time. Autonomous agents monitor, decide, and respond without delay.

• Applications that learn from context. Generative AI adapts to live data and evolving environments.

• Operations that don’t wait for human input. Real-time event streams trigger intelligent workflows instantly.

• Custom software built in days, not months. Low-code tools make complex systems easy to develop and deploy.

• Disconnected systems, finally unified. Legacy infrastructure, IoT devices, and cloud services all work together.

• Deploy anywhere, run everywhere. Cloud, edge, and on-prem environments stay synchronized.

• Security is built into every layer. Enterprise-grade protections and access control out of the box.

How does Vantiq ensure data security and system integrity across its distributed applications?

Security and trust are foundational, especially when you’re dealing with critical infrastructure. From day one, we prioritized a framework that supports sovereign control, secure access, and operational resilience.

The platform is built with zero-trust security, encrypted communication, tamper-proof logs, and policy-based controls—core requirements for operating in sensitive or regulated environments. Just as important, Vantiq can be deployed wherever it’s needed: in the cloud, at the edge, or even in fully air-gapped systems. That kind of flexibility ensures real-time intelligence without giving up control. And because development, deployment, and operations are unified in one platform, every prototype is built production-ready from the start.

In which industries has Vantiq’s platform been most impactful, and can you share examples of its real-world applications?

The platform has been deployed in high-stakes environments where timing is critical and the margin for error is zero.

• In healthcare, our technology supports a GenAI-assisted wound care solution that helps clinicians assess and prioritize patient needs in the field.

• In public safety, we help integrate visual AI, edge sensors, and real-time communication systems to support emergency coordination.

• In energy and infrastructure, Vantiq is supporting efforts to manage grid stability and resource coordination during extreme weather events and other disruptions.

These systems are live, operational, and already delivering situational intelligence in real-time. Not as a concept, but as infrastructure.

Final thoughts

I’ve been in this industry from the start of my career. I was a database manager right out of university—back when real-time computing was more of a theory than a possibility. I’ve also exited at a billion-dollar valuation after helping companies use software to manage distributed systems and streamline enterprise operations through my work at Forte Software. Since then, I’ve had the chance to help build some of the foundational platforms of enterprise technology deployed around the world. But nothing compares to the urgency and potential of this moment.

This moment requires a new kind of thinking. One that views AI (agentic, generative, multi-agent) not as an enhancement, but as an operational necessity. We’re entering an era where national resilience will depend on intelligent systems that can think, react and adapt in real-time.

It might not be necessary in every situation today—but it should be, especially when it comes to national, local, and personal safety. The world now acts in real-time, and our systems need to keep up. The core question is this: how do we design infrastructure that can learn, respond, and protect as fast as events unfold? That’s the space I’m focused on. Vantiq is one example of what’s possible when we take that challenge seriously. But the broader mission is one we all share—building systems we can trust to perform when it matters most.
