Inside Appomart: Vladimir Chernyi on Merging Tech Expertise with Business Strategy

Predrag Vlatkovic Written by:
Founded to make high-quality digital solutions more accessible, Appomart has grown into a trusted development partner for startups and enterprises around the world. In his exclusive Website Planet interview, CEO Vladimir Chernyi shares how the company combines deep technical expertise, startup insight, and a human-focused approach to help clients build scalable, investor-ready products.

What can you tell me about Appomart’s founding story and the company’s journey up to this point?

Appomart was founded in 2016 with the aim of making high-quality digital solutions accessible to a wide range of businesses. Today, the company is based in Serbia, a country that has become a stronghold for technological innovation and development.

A significant milestone in our history was the launch of Appocore (appocore.io), a modular development platform that reduces software creation time by up to 50%. While the company’s roots are in developing client-server applications, our work quickly expanded across multiple sectors. Recognizing the need for global expertise, we later opened an office in Singapore to serve clients in the rapidly growing Asian markets.

With over 70 successfully completed projects, Appomart has cemented its reputation as a reliable partner for startups and enterprises alike. Our solutions range from healthcare applications and educational platforms to e-commerce, retail mobile apps, financial services, logistics, marketing platforms, fitness apps, CRM systems, and IoT solutions, all emphasizing functionality, scalability, and efficiency.

What services and products do you offer?

At Appomart, we pride ourselves on offering a comprehensive suite of services designed to bring ideas to life and ensure their long-term success. Our clients often come to us with a startup concept, and we guide them through the entire journey—from the initial development to scaling and securing investments.

For example, we start with mobile app development, creating polished and reliable applications for iOS and Android that meet the needs of end-users while staying true to the vision of the client. But a great app is rarely enough on its own. We complement it with web applications for administration, enabling clients to manage their platforms efficiently, and promo websites to promote their products and attract an audience.

For high-load systems or projects with complex architecture, we build robust backend solutions that ensure scalability and stability, even under heavy usage. These systems are meticulously designed to grow alongside the business, providing a solid foundation for future expansions.

What sets us apart is that we don’t just deliver the technical components—we also focus on making startups investment-ready. We offer a comprehensive startup package, which includes not only the technology but also market research, prototyping, and creating compelling presentations to showcase the product to investors. This approach has helped several of our clients secure funding and gain traction in competitive markets.

In addition, we provide legal support tailored to IT startups, from intellectual property protection to navigating compliance requirements. For many of our clients, this combination of technical expertise and strategic guidance has proven invaluable, giving them the confidence to launch and grow their ventures effectively.

At Appomart, our goal is to be more than just a development partner—we strive to be a long-term ally, supporting our clients at every stage of their journey.

You develop mobile applications and web services using a human-focused approach. Can you elaborate a bit on that human-focused aspect of your work?

For us, the human-focused approach is about identifying real needs and creating products that address them effectively. In Serbia, for example, we noticed a significant gap in service-ordering platforms. This inspired the creation of Toolly (appomart.com/portfolio/toolly), a project where I serve as co-founder and CTO. Toolly simplifies the process of connecting customers with service providers, and its relevance quickly made it a success. The platform was recognized by local media and even featured on television, proving its necessity in the market.

Our dedication to usability is another cornerstone of our work. Through Appocore (appocore.io), we’ve developed intuitive interfaces that require minimal explanation. This efficiency allows us to focus on customization and optimization for our clients rather than wasting time on basic training. When a product is truly user-centric, it becomes second nature to use, saving both time and effort for everyone involved.

At Appomart, we aim to go beyond just delivering products. We strive to create tools that seamlessly integrate into users’ daily lives, making their routines simpler and their goals more achievable.

How much and in what way is developing software for IT startups unique?

Developing software for IT startups is fundamentally different from working with established businesses because of the unique challenges and opportunities startups face. One of the most critical aspects is the need for speed. Startups must quickly bring their products to market to test hypotheses, gather user feedback, and adjust their strategies. To support this, we provide a solid foundation—both in terms of technology and planning—that allows startups to pivot and refine their product without starting from scratch.

For example, our approach ensures that products are modular and adaptable. If a feature or functionality needs to change after launch, our frameworks and architecture enable seamless updates without disrupting the entire system. This flexibility is invaluable for startups navigating uncertain markets or experimenting with new ideas.

Equally important is starting with a well-defined concept. Many startups come to us with a vague idea—“We want something like this competitor’s product” or “Our audience is anyone aged 20-50 with a business.” Such superficial definitions rarely lead to success. At Appomart, we go deeper, asking the hard questions and working with our clients to build a concept that resonates with their target audience and stands out in the market.

Sometimes this requires additional research or even scientific work. One notable example is a project we worked on in the dating industry, which integrated astrological compatibility. For this, we calculated the movement of celestial bodies and developed algorithms to match users based on astrological parameters. Projects like these demonstrate the importance of detailed concept development—without it, startups risk overspending on features that might not deliver value.

What is an “IT lawyer”?

An “IT lawyer” is a professional who bridges the gap between legal compliance and technological implementation. In today’s world, where digital products are launched across multiple markets, it’s critical to ensure that each product meets the specific legal and regulatory requirements of its target region.

For instance, in healthcare, data protection and privacy laws such as HIPAA in the U.S. or GDPR in Europe impose strict requirements on how patient information is stored, accessed, and shared. Failure to comply can result in severe penalties and reputational damage. In contrast, e-commerce projects in some markets might have more relaxed regulations but still require compliance with payment processing and consumer protection laws.

An IT lawyer ensures that the product’s design, backend, and overall workflow adhere to these regulations from the very start. They work closely with development teams to address critical questions, such as:
  • How should sensitive user data be encrypted and stored?
  • What are the region-specific requirements for terms of service and user agreements?
  • Are there restrictions on third-party integrations or cross-border data transfers?
The advantage of having an in-house IT lawyer is significant. Unlike external legal consultants, they are deeply immersed in the specifics of the project. This allows them to anticipate potential issues early on and provide tailored advice without the need for lengthy onboarding or additional costs.

For example, during the development of a medtech platform, an IT lawyer in the team would already understand the project’s unique requirements, such as ensuring secure cloud storage for patient data or adhering to local medical device regulations. This reduces delays and prevents costly mistakes.

In essence, an IT lawyer (appomart.com/services/legal-it-consulting) is not just a safeguard against legal risks—they’re an integral part of the product development process, ensuring the solution is compliant, secure, and ready for its intended market.

Is there anything else about your work that you’d like to share that we haven’t covered?

If you’re wondering “Where do I start?” or feeling unsure about how to bring your idea to life, that’s exactly where we come in. At Appomart, we understand that launching a digital product or upgrading an IT system can be overwhelming. That’s why we’ve developed a structured approach to help our clients confidently take their first steps.

One of our standout offerings is the “startup package”—a month-long program designed to help clients explore their ideas and test the waters before committing to full-scale development. During this time, we work closely with the client to create prototypes, define concepts, or outline technical roadmaps. It’s a low-risk way to see how we work, refine your goals, and ensure the project is heading in the right direction.

For startups, this package often clarifies whether their idea fits the market or if adjustments are needed. For corporate clients, it provides decision-makers with clear, actionable insights to present internally and align their teams. What’s most rewarding for us is that in nearly every case, clients choose to continue working with us, realizing the value of the solutions we provide and the partnership we bring.

At the core of our philosophy is a commitment to making IT accessible, reliable, and aligned with your business goals. Whether you’re building something new or improving something established, Appomart is here to help you start smart and finish strong.
