HOSTPLUS offers excellent pricing options for servers, but a lack of developer features and SSL support are significant drawbacks that will force webmasters to choose between price and functionality.

HOSTPLUSHOSTPLUS is a Russian web hosting company founded in 2008. They primarily operate out of two data centers in Russia and Germany, but they also have server nodes in France, Ukraine, and the United States. Their client list is mostly Russian, but they do have a few international clients as well. Support is only offered in Russian.

Features and Ease of Use

HOSTPLUS guarantees a minimum of 99.9% uptime for all their web hosting plans with servers located in Russia or Germany. One-click integrations are available for popular CMSes such as WordPress, Drupal, and Joomla through Softaculous. They also have hosting optimized for Joomla, which comes with a free domain registration and special one month free trial period but is limited to server nodes in Russia, Germany, and France (i.e., it’s not available in the United States).

The option to use a single provider and get access to servers in both Europe and Russia is a definite plus to any webmaster with an audience that spans the European and Asian continents.

The amount of speed, memory, and add-on domains available vary depending on your selected plan. However, all of them offer the same feature list:

  • PHP 5.3 or 7 with phpMyAdmin
  • Softaculous auto-installer
  • Unlimited subdomains
  • Unlimited FTP accounts
  • Unlimited MySQL databases
  • Cloudflare support
  • SMTP / POP3 / IMAP email accounts with anti-spam filters
  • cPanel (Russian language only)
  • Cron jobs
  • Dedicated IP address
  • 24/7 server monitoring
  • Daily server backups

Their website doesn’t seem well-maintained or well-designed, to be honest: there are sometimes gaps in information that make it confusing for users to ascertain the presence of certain features. For instance, they list that they only support PHP 5.2, 5.3, and 5.5, but once you get to the checkout process, you’re asked to choose between PHP 5.3 and 7.0 as the default on your account.

It’s also important to note a lack of any specific e-commerce functionality such as SSL certificates. Webmasters running stores will unfortunately need to find other ways to add merchant-specific functionality.

Pricing and Support

HOSTPLUS offers five different shared hosting plans. All of them include a free trial of up to a month, and there’s a 50% discount on any subscriptions longer than three months. In addition, if uptime falls below the 99.9% threshold, free hosting time may be added to a webmaster’s account as compensation.

The entry-level plan is within the industry standard for most things. You get a better price-to-performance ratio with each tier up, with a 3.5x increase in price netting you a 10x increase in memory. However, RAM capacities are not mentioned — a big omission.

Support options are Russian-language only. Voice and live chat options are available through the Skype platform, and in my experience, their representatives usually respond within 24 hours. In addition, phone support options are available during normal business hours. There is no self-help knowledge base, forcing you to contact a support representative if you need help.

Bottom line on HOSTPLUS

HOSTPLUS offers good pricing, adequate uptime, and the ability to have geographical proximity to the European and Asian markets. However, the lack of free SSL certificates will be a significant drawback to any online merchant or business looking to rank well in search engines.

  • Server proximity to European and Asian markets
  • Excellent entry-level price point
  • Joomla-specific integration
  • cPanel

  • Russian-only support
  • Limited advanced developer functionality
