Gate.com is fine, but fine is not good enough. While Gate.com is a decent web host, you can get better quality hosting at a cheaper price with Hostinger, for example.
Gate.com was founded back in 1996, which makes it almost as old as the web itself. Its packages focus on website hosting and VPS solutions, with the former making use of the Website Builder tool that allows pretty much anyone to create their own website.
Gate.com’s website is in English.
Features and Ease of Use
Gate.com’s beginner-friendly hosting includes these features:
- 100% uptime guarantee (for VPS)
- Domain registration
- Multidomain hosting
- Free shared SSL certificates
- Free mail hosting with unlimited accounts
- Up to unlimited website storage or 240 GB VPS storage
- Unlimited traffic with all plans
The web hosting plans are geared around the beginner-friendly, feature-rich, drag-and-drop Website Builder tool that includes templates, handy widgets, and features like calendars and contact forms. To run an online store using the Merchant Manager, you’ll have to upgrade to a Professional plan or purchase an add-on. It might not be enterprise-grade, but it should be good enough for small to medium-sized online retailers.
It’s fair enough that you’ll have to pay extra to get great online marketing tools, but I don’t understand why you also have to upgrade to make your website mobile-responsive.
Most of the hosting packages come with unlimited storage and bandwidth, and an outstanding 100% uptime guarantee. This uptime guarantee would be even more outstanding if no shared hosting customers were complaining about frequent outages. The good news is that the VPS solutions seem to be much more stable.
If you’re looking for mission-specific hosting, you can check out the other hosting services that include Microsoft Exchange and Sharepoint hosting.
Pricing and Support
Gate.com’s hosting plan prices start pretty low, but there are some very real restrictions with the cheapest Basic plan despite its generous storage and bandwidth. So, it won’t be suitable for all customers.
The Professional plan might seem a bit pricey, but it comes with a lot of additional features (including e-commerce, a mobile site creator, and SEO) that add a lot of value. If you don’t want to commit to the higher price, you can purchase most of the professional features as add-ons instead.
With all web hosting plans, you can choose either monthly or annual billing. You do get a two-month discount with annual billing, but you don’t get a free domain. What is interesting (and unusual) is that the Windows hosting doesn’t cost more than the Linux hosting.
The VPS packages are arguably even more affordable than the shared hosting. These come with with a 30-day money back guarantee, quarterly and semi-annual billing terms, and discounted annual billing.
Although Gate.com offers 24/7 support via email, ticket, telephone, and live chat, the instant channels are not always available. What’s more, I’ve had one or two emails ignored entirely. When I have got through, I’ve been pleased with the above-average assistance I’ve received.
For self-support, there is also a very good knowledge base with a vast number of informative and helpful articles, and step-by-step guides to help you set up and manage your hosting:
