Vietnam-based Brain Host could be a perfectly plausible web host. Then again, it could be merely a mirage created from an off-the-shelf web hosting WordPress theme. You can decide for yourself when you've read my review.

Overview

brainhost main

Brain Host is fine, but fine is not good enough. While Brain Host is a decent web host, you can get better quality hosting at a cheaper price with Hostinger, for example.

Vietnam-based Brain Host also has offices in the U.K. and U.S.A., and servers in Australia, Russia, Singapore, and America. This hosting business, which was established in 2010, has hosted more than 350,000 websites. Brain Host’s attractive and efficient (but slightly uninformative) website is in English, and its hosting plans are priced in U.S. Dollars.

So far, so good, but something smells fishy about this host, as you’ll see when you reach my conclusion. In the meantime, let’s assume that it is what it claims to be.

Features and Ease of Use

Brain Host offers four shared hosting plans, named Basic, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. While the Basic plan provides 5,000 MB of monthly bandwidth, the other plans provide unlimited bandwidth. The hosting plans vary in terms of storage, the number of hosted websites, the number of email accounts, and a few other things. They have these features in common:

  • Unlimited bandwidth (except for the Basic plan)
  • SSD storage
  • 99.9% uptime guarantee
  • Website builder
  • cPanel
  • One-click installer
  • Regular backups

Brain Host boosts page loading speeds and overall performance by using SSD storage and caching.

The user-friendly cPanel control panel provides you with full control over your website, files, email accounts, backup intervals, FTP accounts, and more. The accompanying one-click installer comes with installation scripts for hundreds of popular applications such as WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, Magento, PrestaShop, phpBB, and TYPO3.

If you don’t want a CMS-backed website, you can use the free website builder to build a web presence without having to hire a web design expert or developer. This website builder comes with plenty of layouts and templates and a simple drag-and-drop interface.

Pricing and Support

Brain Host

Brain Host’s prices are notably higher than the industry average for the otherwise attractive features it offers, especially when you add the cost of domain registration.

On the plus side, you get a 30-day money-back guarantee, which gives you some time to thoroughly assess the services. On the minus side, I found it impossible to purchase a plan because the buy buttons didn’t seem to work.

If you go searching for self-support resources, you’ll come across an empty knowledge base (apart from some “lorem ipsum” Latin placeholder text). You’ll be similarly disappointed if you try to summon support. There is no live chat (despite it being advertised), and my test support ticket submission went unanswered.

A Free Domain is included when purchasing any hosting service from Brain Host

Bottom line on Brain Host

It’s only when you’ve been reviewing web hosting websites for as long as I have that you learn to spot when something is suspicious, as it is with Brain Host. Not for the first time, I think I’ve found a hosting company that doesn’t actually exist, but which is merely a mirage created by partially customizing an off-the-shelf web hosting WordPress theme.

While the clues were there all along (just look at its “lorem ipsum” knowledge base), the smoking gun came in the form of a link to the InwaveThemes website from this host’s contact page. Aha! The mailing addresses for both web sites match precisely.

If I’m wrong, you’ll want to know the pros and cons of this provider, which are:

Pros

  • 30-day money-back guarantee
  • SSD storage
  • Free website builder
  • 99.9% uptime guarantee

Cons

  • Unresponsive support
  • The website has lots of broken links
