GoDaddy vs Web Hosting Canada – Our Surprising Results [2024]

Mark Holden Mark HoldenWeb Hosting Expert
Do you need fast, feature-rich, secure, and affordable web hosting? Then you should avoid both GoDaddy and Web Hosting Canada.

After testing these services across five different categories, including performance, pricing, and features, I found out that both hosts are slow, insecure, and quite expensive considering the limited features.

Nevertheless, getting premium hosting features, blazing-fast performance, and robust security at a budget-friendly cost is easy with Hostinger.

1. Plans and Pricing

Web Hosting Canada Is More Affordable, but Neither Host is Value for Money

GoDaddy offers four managed WordPress hosting plans for single websites (Basic, Deluxe, Ultimate, and E-commerce) and four managed WordPress plans for multiple websites (Pro 5, Pro 10, Pro 25, and Pro 50). Both the single-site and Pro plans are quite expensive.

Web Hosting Canada has three managed WordPress hosting plans (WP Go, WP Pro, and WP Beast). These plans are slightly cheaper than GoDaddy for WordPress hosting.

You’ll get a free domain with all of GoDaddy’s WordPress hosting plans, but not with Web Hosting Canada. However, both hosts provide free website migration.

GoDaddy has a 30-day money-back guarantee with annual subscriptions and a 48-hour refund with monthly plans. Web Hosting Canada, on the other hand, offers a 30-day money-back guarantee with all subscription terms.

When it comes to quality to price ratio, I wouldn’t choose either host. To get the best features, you’ll need to subscribe to the most expensive packages. If you want to get your money’s worth, I recommend Hostinger.

With Hostinger, you can get WordPress packages at a much cheaper rate than GoDaddy and with more resources than Web Hosting Canada.

2. Features

GoDaddy’s Features Are Standard, and Web Hosting Canada Has Limited Resources

With GoDaddy’s single-site WordPress hosting plans, you’ll get from 30 GB to unlimited HDD storage, 25k to unlimited monthly visitors, free business email for the first year, and one hosted website. The Pro WordPress hosting plans provide you with 50 GB to 200 GB HDD storage, free professional email for the first year, and 5 to 50 websites.

All plans come with daily backups and a free CDN. There is also a free SSL certificate with higher-tier single-site plans and Pro plans. The Pro plans include SSH access with WP-CLI and Git, a free image gallery (10,000 royalty-free images), and one-click site staging.

With Web Hosting Canada for WordPress hosting, the disk space ranges between 10 GB to 50 GB SSD. Plus, you get from 25K to 500K monthly visitors and can host one website.

All plans come with SFTP, SSH access, a free SSL certificate, free CDN, daily backups, and multi-level caching. Except on the smallest plan, you also get one-click site staging and WP-CLI and Git.

As you can see, both GoDaddy and Web Hosting Canada offer pretty basic features for WordPress hosting. If you want more resources and premium features, Hostinger is a great option. You can host up to 300 websites and get free Jetpack, among other things. When GoDaddy and Web Hosting Canada are put head to head, though, GoDaddy just scrapes into the lead.

3. Performance

Web Hosting Canada Has More Performance Features, but Both Hosts Have Poor Performance

GoDaddy has servers in the U.S.A. and India, but Web Hosting Canada only has servers in Canada. In saying that, Web Hosting Canada only targets customers in Canada, while GoDaddy has a global audience.

Web Hosting Canada uses SSD storage with all its plans, while you’ll only get SSD with some GoDaddy plans. Using SSD storage instead of the traditional HDD storage boosts your website’s loading speed, stability, and overall performance.

You’ll only get a free CDN with GoDaddy’s WordPress hosting plans, while Web Hosting Canada includes it with all plans. A CDN, or Content Delivery Network, boosts your website’s loading speed from different locations around the world. When activated, the CDN places your website on a global network of cloud servers.

Both hosts promise a 99.9% uptime guarantee. Even though both exceeded this promise when tested, there were a few minor downtimes.

Considering its well-known name, I expected GoDaddy’s performance to be off the charts. To my surprise, it showed very disappointing loading speeds from almost every location around the world. Check out the detailed test results in GoDaddy’s full review.

[GoDaddy] - [Speed test]

Compared to GoDaddy, Web Hosting Canada has slightly better page loading speeds. However, it isn’t good enough to be considered average. Even in the targeted locations (the U.S.A. and Canada), the loading times aren’t very good. You can find out more in Web Hosting Canada’s detailed review.

[Web Hosting Canada] - [Speed test]

Despite the performance features, neither host can be considered a good performer. If you’re looking for a hosting provider with reliable performance, I suggest you go with Hostinger.

4. Security

Both Hosts Have Limited Security Features

Both GoDaddy and Web Hosting Canada use advanced server firewalls and 24/7 network monitoring to protect your website against unwanted external threats, such as DDoS and Brute-Force attacks.

You get free SSL certificates with specific plans (mostly the higher value plans), and Web Hosting Canada provides free automatic daily backups, a perk you’ll only get with some GoDaddy plans.

The shared servers run on CloudLinux OS, which securely isolates your account from others to protect it against threats targeting those on the same server. It also ensures the fair allocation of the server’s resources.

The security round is a tie because both hosts have limited security features. If you’re looking for a more secure host, I suggest checking out Hostinger, which offers a broad range of security features.

5. Support

Web Hosting Canada’s Support is More Helpful

Even though GoDaddy and Web Hosting Canada have informative knowledgebase sections, GoDaddy’s is slightly more comprehensive.

GoDaddy provides 24/7 support via live chat and phone, with global call center locations for different regions and languages. However, unlike what’s advertised, the live chat can sometimes be offline. Even when I was lucky to get connected with an agent, it wasn’t a pleasant experience. There were apparent knowledge gaps, which made the interaction unhelpful.

[GoDaddy] - [Live chat]

Web Hosting Canada’s support is available 24/7 via live chat, phone, email, and support ticket. I tried both the live chat and the support ticket. It took a few minutes to connect to a live chat agent, but the replies were prompt and helpful. The reply to my support ticket was also fast, taking just 15 minutes.

[Web Hosting Canada] - [Support Chat]

Web Hosting Canada has more support channels than GoDaddy, and its staff is more helpful, making it the winner of this round.

Why Both GoDaddy and Web Hosting Canada Lose This Battle

Choosing GoDaddy or Web Hosting Canada should be avoided for several reasons. While GoDaddy offers a reliable domain registrar and a satisfactory website builder, its infrastructure is susceptible, prices are high, performance is inconsistent, and the standard features are limited, resulting in an unreliable web hosting experience.

Web Hosting Canada provides very good customer support and slightly better resource allocations than GoDaddy. However, like GoDaddy, its managed WordPress hosting is overpriced given its generic features, limited resources, and overall poor performance.

That’s why neither GoDaddy nor Web Hosting Canada got a spot in our expert list of the best web hosting services or surpassed Hostinger’s affordable shared hosting plans.

Hi, in your review, you often mention that both service are "vulnerable due to weak security measures". How exactly did you test/prove that claim. You mention their features to then proceed and they have mediocre security. Having less "extra feature" don't make them more vulnerable as a hosting service. I'm just curious in how the vulnerability is actually defined (actual DDOS attack test perform etc.) For the rest of the article I enjoyed reading it and I would also agree that GoDaddy is "overpriced" even with the "free-domain yearly" and also agree that any hosting service offering a "special WP hosting plan" which are always more expensive are a complete gimmick since you can easily get the same result with a more basic plan.

Thanks for your feedback - we're glad you found this information useful! Regarding the security features of both hosts, our statement is that they are limited compared to what other services have on offer. You don't have to look far for proof that both of these infrastructures are vulnerable. Just a few months ago, GoDaddy suffered a major data breach that exposed more than 1 million of its clients. Still last year, Web Hosting Canada saw a similar breach, although fewer clients were affected.
