Monitoring and Analysis
Performance and Monitoring With Buffer
One of the most important aspects of social media marketing is listening to people and monitoring brand and keywords. Buffer, along with their advanced scheduling feature, focus heavily on analytics, monitoring and engagement and you will see this from the outset. As soon as you login to the Buffer dashboard you will be greeted with an Analytics tab at the top which houses some important statistics on how well your posts are performing. You will be able to see how many times they have been retweeted, mentioned, clicked and favorited, as well as a handy bit of data called ‘Potential’, which will show you the kind of reach your post could have.
Unfortunately, that is far as the analytics and monitoring goes, so you won’t be able to dig deeper into demographic data or sentiments to help tweak your social strategy, and you won’t be able to follow conversations. If these kinds of features are important to you, I would suggest looking at tools such as Sendible or Sysomos.
However, if measuring engagement is enough for you then Buffer is the tool for your social kit.
One of The Easiest Platform to Use
Buffer is definitely the best of all the social media management programs we have reviewed when it comes to ease-of-use, and the Buffer really does pull out all the stops from a user-friendly approach, and you’ll see this in action as soon as you sign in. The interface is clear and everything is spaced out, this way every feature stands out.
There are also some extensions that you can use with Buffer, which will enable you to add a bookmarklet to your browser’s toolbar. This will then enable you to add content from around the web for publishing through your Buffer account, making this one of the easiest platforms to use.
Some unique features, but lacking engagement
Buffer is full of simple but effective features such as the bookmarklet, which can help with the construction of content that can be posted or scheduled to any of the social media account that you have added.
However, there are features that are missing which can be critical to the progress of any social media account such as:
- Watch conversations
- Engage with users
- Run reports
If you need these types of features then I advise that you take a look at the likes of Postling or Hootsuite.
Free is enough, paid is awesome
There is no downside on the pricing for this tool as they offer a couple of packages, the first is a free plan which gives you instant access to the platform and opens up a lot of features such as the ability to add one social profile to Twitter and Facebook, as well as 10 updates to your scheduler.
The second package is just $10 per month, which is the lowest price in the industry and matches up with tools such as Hootsuite. With this package, you have access to 12 social profiles and unlimited posts in your scheduler. You can also add two team members to share the workload.
Lacking real-time support but offers some helpful guides
When we look at support options that the Buffer tool offers, they do provide good basic support in terms of offering written guides, an FAQ section and a feedback forum. That’s all nice and dandy, but they do lack a lot of real-time support. Therefore, if you are looking for quick answers to questions then you may not find them straight away.
Sending them an email could be the solution to a quick answer however, as they do boast that 80% of emails will be answered within 6 hours, and you also have the option to interact with them by sending a tweet.
However, even if your question doesn’t get answered immediately you could always check out their support guides and forums. You’ll find out that many of your questions may already have been asked and answered there. The forums are packed with information and ways to improve certain aspects of the program.

Buffer is the ideal tool for pushing fresh content to your social media accounts followed by tracking how well they perform. With the ability to schedule an unlimited number of posts for any date or time in the future it brings management to a whole new level.
If you are looking for a tool that can provide reports and look more into the monitoring and engagement side of things, then you might want to consider other tools such as Hootsuite which is the same price and allows reports and engagement.
Other than that, Buffer is a great entry-level tool for small businesses, which has some handy features at an incredible price.
