Overview

A Well Known Name That Offers Solid Web Building Functionality

You may have already heard about 1&1 through their vast marketing campaigns that reached TV channels throughout the UK. Whilst 1&1 won’t offer you the ultimate web building experience, they do offer a fully functional website editor that can help you build a decent site from start to finish. The user-friendliness of the site makes it easy for any skill-leveled user to pick up and run with.

Why use 1&1?

  • Extremely Easy to Use
  • Plenty of Good Templates
  • Affordable Pricing

Lets see what 1&1 has to offer…

The Review Factors:

Pricing

8

Reasonably Priced

1&1 provides a reasonable package, providing a large amount of storage space and a domain name as well.  There is mention of other available packages several times throughout their sales pages, but after searching for about an hour, I was unable to find enough information on any of them to include them here.

Lots of Very Similar, but Great Templates

Template Selection – 1&1 offers a lot of templates for you to use in a number of different sectors. They feature designs that will convert well for advertisements and convey a professional business image, however, all of the templates are just minor variations of a small amount of innovative designs.

Customization – 1&1 templates are easy to modify, but have a limited set of properties that can be edited.

Multimedia – Any form of media can be added easily using the built-in features, but once again, 1&1 is lacking in the scope of customization available.

Features

All The Basic Features to Build a Good WebSite

If you are looking to build a basic and simple website for a business that doesn’t necessarily offer a checkout system, but does offer a portal to offer it’s services and products, then 1&1 may be the right option for you. If you need a fully-featured or advanced functionality website, 1&1 might be lacking all those ‘next-tier’ features that drive a website forward. What you do get is a Microsoft Office styled interface, with all the fundamental features to help build a decent basic site.

User Friendly

9

As Simple As a Text Editor

1&1’s site editor works like most modern text editors, which eliminates any form of learning curve for this service.  As soon as you start, it is easy to tell exactly how to go about editing your page, adding text, adding images, etc.  If you want to move outside of the stock formats that are common within their editor, then you may want to use another editor.  They provide a tool for creating basic websites easily, but don’t expect much else.

Support

5

A Bit Lacking

  • Email Support
  • Phone Support
  • Support Center
  • Video Tutorials
  • SEO Help
  • Blog
  • Live Chat
  • Forum

The support at 1&1 eventually gets the job done, but I found it a bit difficult to get there.  A lot of the most common ways to get support are not supported, and the guides they provided are lacking.  The support representatives were very nice, but their replies and answers were often unhelpful, sometimes causing greater problems than were to begin with.

PRO’S

CON’S

  • Extremely Easy to Use
  • Plenty of Good Templates
  • Affordable Pricing
  • Poor Support
  • Lacking In Features

If you want an affordable, super easy to use web editor, and you are planning to use it to build a no-frills website, then 1&1’s site builder is perfect.  It defines its target clearly, and does what is needed to cater to their needs. Anyone outside of the non-savvy niche should look elsewhere.
